People have tried it, or at least asked about it.
TONS of work. Much easier to find 1/2 ton stuff from 67-72 to swap it over. Tons of other board members in your area who can help you out if you ask. Do yourself a favor and become a paid subscriber. That way you can post wanted and for sale ads.

welcome to the board.
If it is a 4X4, then it is doable. You'll have to relocate the rear axle forward since the 67 is a 127 inch wheel base, then you'll have to fab up a custom lift kit for the cab since the chassis is not flat like the 67 - 72 frames. you'll probably have to fab up mounting points for the frame and rad core support. If it is a 2 wheel drive, don't waste your time. If your truck tops out at 60 MPH, something else is wrong. You should be able to get it to 100 MPH. you can convert it to 1/2 ton quite easily if that's the main goal. |

Re: 1967 GMC body on a 1989 GMC chassie
Thanks for the replies,
My truck is a 1967 GMC 3/4 ton, 305 V6, 4 speed-(L,1,2,3), I need to check the gear ratio in the rearend, I guy I bought it from had it for 20years & now I'm the 3rd owner, he used it for towing his trailers, He said that the top speed is around 60 mph. My goals are to make it go faster down the road, Put disc-brakes on the front, little body work, and replace the wood in the bed. Any info on donor trucks to get the parts from? Thanks, CP |

Chevy/GMC trucks starting in 1971 had disc brakes on the front as standard equipment.
So with little effort you can bolt them in. Find a whole 1/2 ton truck and steal the brakes and the rearend out of it for yours.

i didn't think about the V6 part with it being a GMC... you should be able to get 80out of it though.
That should be a 4.10 gear in the rear with the 4 speed trans. |

Re: 1967 GMC body on a 1989 GMC chassie
i would change it to a 71-72 frame so you'll have disk brakes and if you want it to go faster i would use a half ton frame for ease of finding higher gear ratios and swap the body onto that. with the half ton frame you'll probably get coil springs so it'll be a better ride.
