WIW - Restored Chevrolet Tailgate

Just wanting to get some opinions on what this tailgate is worth. I started with a rust-free original that I purchased last fall. It was split open, sandblasted inside and out, sealed inside then re-assembled and finished. We shot it with a black base/clear and polished it to show how straight it is (and it is as straight as it looks).

I have it advertised locally for $1000 Canadian ($850 US)... A person could easily spend that and more to restore an original gate. Am I in the ball-park? Any opinions would be appreciated.

I would say you're probably right on. You cant hardly find a straight rust free gate anymore. And that's probably as close to perfect as one could hope for. Good luck with your sale.

Re: WIW - Restored Chevrolet Tailgate

I wouldn't change your price, but leave a little wiggle room for negotiations? Like a final price of maybe $750-800 picked up or $850 shipped (US $).

I hate saying this over and over, but "in this economy" it may take longer to sell this than it would have a year or two ago. I'd be patient and the right buyer should come along.

We think alike. I have a nice rust free original that I'm going to pull apart as well. Great job.

Re: WIW - Restored Chevrolet Tailgate

I agree with the others...especially 67 chevy redneck. Should sell at that price with that glossy paint to show it's straightness....but might take a while. I have an original gate (basically NOS with the trim drilled) that's never seen a truck with no rust in primer....and it's still for sale for 625 shipped...http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=327491

Re: WIW - Restored Chevrolet Tailgate

Thanks for the opinions guys... You are confirming my thinking. I am in no rush to sell it and I believe it is good value for the money. Someone will come along at some point and recognize the quality of the piece they are looking at.

Re: WIW - Restored Chevrolet Tailgate

im sure its worth what your asking, although my thoughts are it will take that one person who is looking to build a VERY nice truck to pay that, not saying its not worth your askin by no means. like others said may take awhile. good luck and great job on the gate, great thinkin on shootin it black for pics

Re: WIW - Restored Chevrolet Tailgate

That's an NOS price to me but in the ballpark for how nice it is, A guy will still have to paint to match his truck so that expense will be on his mind.

Agree x2. Your optimum potential buyer will be someone doing a nice black truck.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
