Whats this all about? Did somone just glue this on here? I have seen this before but I cant remember where?

Anyone know?

blue dots been around almost as long as taillights themselves

It was an old "fad" I believe is it molded into the lens. It is blue glass.

you just drill a hole and put that in it, it has tabs on the back you bend

I've honestly never seen them. I'm not sure i'd put those on mine.

I have them on my '71. You can run them but you need the stock ones to pass inspection.

the glass ones will make the brake lights and turn signals glow in a purple-ish hue. Plastic ones not so much. The smaller the lamp assembly, the more purple the light shows through.
They are illegal in most states, and I will bet a kick in the daddy parts they are illegal in Cali.

I haven't been in texas since 2001, but I got pulled over and got a warning for blue dots in my tail lights when I lived in Harker Heights Tx.
They aren't permitted here either... only on motorcycles.

They used to be called "bulls eye" taillights. And where real popular with the 49 and 50 Fords. So, Yep, they've been around for a long time.
