np205 T-case shifter bushing???
I am in the assembly stage of my 71 K10 Body restoration, and the time to put the shifter and floor hump back in has come. I have the shifter, but the little plastic bushing that goes over the shaft inside the shifter is toast. I need to get a new one but cant find them! I just tried LMC, Classic Ind, and the local parts stores. There has to be a place I can get a bushing! Anyone?
Thanks |

Re: np205 T-case shifter bushing???
I dont have any pics right now, the truck is at a friends shop. The shifter has a bolt that attatches it to the transfer case, the bolt has a long unthreaded portion where the shifter sits, and pivots. The bushing goes between the shifter and the bolt/shaft. I think it was made out of plastic or nylon, somthing to that effect.
I temporarily installed the shifter, and it moves as much as a 4sp shifter would, incredibly loose. |

Re: np205 T-case shifter bushing???
I believe that it is a half inch bolt that attaches to the adapter(mine is a 72 though; but probably the same). There should be some sort of step bolt (not sure what they are called) that has half 13 threads on the end and a larger diameter where the shifter goes. I couldn't find the proper bolt to do the job nor could I locate my original, so I took a trip to the local hardware store and got a brass bushing. I suppose a nylon one would work as well. I am not sure the ID of the shifter itself, I just took it to the store with me and found one that was that size on the OD and half inch for the ID. I looked all over as well like you did and had no luck finding a replacement. My truck is not on the road yet, but it is nice and tight. BTW do not get a bolt that is too long because it will bottom out inside the adapter and not tighten up on the shifter...I am not sure what size it was, but I do remember having to buy a few bolts and shimming them with some washers to get the proper fit. The only other answer to getting the proper bolt in the first place would to go the junk yard.
Hope this helps James |

I to have spent time looking for this bushing. If it is the one that goes on the bolt that holds the shifter to the case. No luck on that one. I made one out of something, I dont remember what.

Re: np205 T-case shifter bushing???
What i used to replace original. the bolt is 2.5" long x 7/16 threads. The spacer/bushing is 1"3/8 long x 3/4 od and 7/16 id. Grade 8 bolt from OSH and spacer /bushing i had machined at local shop.
I took pics but had no luck uploading them it failed for some reason, give me the scoop on how to load them and i'll re-try, if your still intreseted. |

Re: np205 T-case shifter bushing???
I ended up finding 2 bushings.. (there is actully 2 that hold it in, one comes from each side) I got them from a transmission shop that had tons of old inventory. The guy told me he had to go thru a huge bucket of old shifter bushing to find them . I got lucky I guess.

Re: np205 T-case shifter bushing???
CTENTA1, I hope to fire it off tomorrow if I get my a** in gear. I just need to finish a few minor wiring mods, put the bed back on, bumpers and steering.
Thanks for the compliment, its been way more work/money than I thought I would ever put into it. I have the "while I'm at it" disease. You live in Nipomo? Which monster is yours? BTW, if you want to load pics, you have to most likely re-size them, I had the same problem. James Last edited by 72blue; 03-07-2009 at 01:19 AM. |

Re: np205 T-case shifter bushing???
I took my 7/16" bolt and found some bushings to fit the shifter.
3/4" od bronze bushing with 1/2" id. Then, 1/2" od brass tube with 7/16" id. All found at Ace Hardware. $2.85 each for bronze bushing and $2.99 for brass. I could have got stainless instead of brass but $6.99.

Re: np205 T-case shifter bushing???
Also, everybody be aware....there are at least two different size bolt/bolt holes for the transfer case mount to shifter. I've the one I've shown...7/16". And, I've another that is at least 1/2" maybe larger.
