Repair Dash area cut out for CD Player

My 72 has had the dash cut out for a CD Player, but I would like to go back to a stock (or maybe stock style retro) radio.

Do they make a repair panel for that area on the dash or is there no real easy way to repair the cut out area around the radio slot?

i was wondering the same exact thing i couldn't find any tho but would be niceiwas thinking maybe get the jukyard to cut that peice off but they would probably want alot to do that

I replaced my whole dash with a A/C dash. Fixed that radio problem right up. I am about to put factory air in my cab instead of vintage

I already have factory air.... just need that dang panel around the radio...

I was really thinking of cutting my dash. Glad i didn't though. Jason has a bunch of air dashes too. I would think replacing the whole dash would be easier.. I could be wrong though

Only way I know of is putting in a non cut dash or cutting out and replacing the panel with one from a non cut dash.

I dont know about been easy but I cant see not being able to cut the center panel off another truck and weld it in place, fill it, sand it and paint. I am not a welder but I know someone with skill could do it with no issues.

Watch the parts board as guys are always trying to part with complete dashes or even the radio area for a patch panel. They can be welded in rather easily.

thinkin bout tracing out an uncut dash..cutting some nice wood or metal to screw in over my cut dash

LMC sells one too - probably the same part. I do wish someone sold a full center panel with the a/c cutout. I saw a good thread on here where someone used a rather large panel to join it under the instrument cluster and at the edge of the glovebox so that most of the grinding post-weld would be hidden in case it wasn't perfect. I need to do this, not looking forward to it! Really kinda gotta have everything torn down to do it.

Bruce88 has a fantastic build thread with tons of information in it. It takes a while to get through, but if you read the whole thing you will be amazed.

One of the tips is replacing the radio panel section of the dash with very little welding compared to the repair panel mentioned above. You do need a donor vehicle for the new panel.

It is located on Page 10 of his Build Thread, post #236. You just can't beat this fix.

X2 on this. There are plenty of otherwise trashed cabs that have the radio area intact. Cut the piece larger than needed, square it up with tabs square the opening In your dash and tack weld it in. Take your time and it'll look like new.
