New stance

Got the wheels and tires last year but the were rubbing in the front. I found some rancho springs that were supposed to give an additional 2" of lift. I got em put in over the weekend and I got a little more than I thought I would......I wanted it look a little like a 4wd just in the stance and not try to completely imitate one. I don't think it looks bad, it's just that now I have to figure out what to do about lifting the back end. One suggestion given to me was to fab up some blocks for above/below the rear coil springs. Anyway, here it is as it stands right now....38" from the ground to the wheel well in front and 36" in the back. Heh, heh

Looks good! I would vote for a 2" block in the back, I like trucks that are level. I think it would like pretty mean that way!

Re: New stance

A set of 3/4 ton rear coil springs would level it out nicely, and give you better towing capacity.

It would make it a little stiffer, but the 3/4T's aren't unbearable. I would think the lift springs on the front probably made a little stiffer as well.

Ohh, and it sure is stiff as it is now...lol...but, it's a c20 and does have the 3/4 ton springs on the rear.

Yes, the majority of Chevy 3/4 tons have coil springs. Leafs were optional on the Chevys, but they were standard on GMC's. GMC's could also be ordered with coils also! Wierd, I know!

I agree but, as I got looking I got wondering...Will raising the rear up with block(s) further decrease the space between the tire and front of the wheelwell?

Re: New stance

Get some '71-'72 Chevy Elcamino rear shocks (inexpensive and are air shocks) and add a little air to them until it is level. I like it where it sits however!

Re: New stance

I like em just a tad nose high like yours sits now. My ex 71 K10 sits like that and it gives it a bit of an aggressive look in my eyes.

One of these days Im going to lift the nose of my 71K20 up a bit, as soon as I stop buying other stuff I really dont need LOL

That's a good question, which I have no answer to. Maybe somebody who has done some blocks on one of these could chime in? Good luck!

Re: New stance

It seems to me that if you jack up the rear bumper the 2 inches higher you want it ,,and let the axles and wheels stay on the ground ,,it would give you an a pretty good idea of how much closer the wheel well your front tires. would be ... I would guess only a 1/4 inch ..

Re: New stance

If you have a coil rear end putting blocks in will lower it since the truck arm, or trailoring arm whatever you want to call it, is mounted under the axle.

Personally I think it looks perfect the way it is, I would leave it. Where did you get the rancho springs from?

Re: New stance

My suggestion would be to switch to leaf springs. I think 73-87 springs and perches will work, but someone with more knowledge needs to chime in on this. You might even check with some 4x4 shops in your area and get some input.

Re: New stance

We used some part #34-2830 HD 1/2 ton springs from LMC on the rear of our 68 C10, LWB wood floor. I just measured and we have 21 3/4 inches from the wheel well to the center of the wheel cap. On our 70 C10, LWB steel floor, we used a pair of 34-2820 variable rate sprins from LMC, I measured 21 1/4 inches from the wheel well to the center of the cap on that one. I thought the variable rate ones were taller, but those springs have had a heavy trailer on a time or two so maybe they settled some. I also measured our 71 C20 LWB wood floor, it has stock 38 year old springs, I measured 21 inches on that. Don't know if that will help any but it might give you and idea of what some different springs measure up.

I got em from Oreillys website, I'll pull the part number tomorrow. At this rate, I'm still debating options, raise the back or lower the front. Because it ended up so high, maybe i should have just had some made instead... There's a good chance I'll have to sell it soon now that I waited a few years to get somethings I wanted done and wanted to get this figured out first.

Thanks Green, I may do some measuring to see where it's at now

Have you driven the truck much lately? A few days of driving will get the springs to settle into the spring pockets and break in, and can lower the truck an inch or so.
