soft top

ok guys. I am wiling to re engineer my soft top. what would it be worth for the plans for you guys. or what would you guys feel confortable paying. In my plans you will not have to drill into your bed sides or windshield frame. Im still working on the tailgate.. I want to be able to lower it and still have the top on.

Re: soft top

So you want us to pay you for the plans or you want to know what they are worth? How about asking for donations after they are done, you might get more responses.

Re: soft top

I wouldn't be interested in paying for plans but would be interested in a kit.
Members here have shown interest at paying 1.5k to places like Can-back. Cut that price down significantly and I think you'd get streams of interest, immediate and longterm.

Re: soft top

I think that if you put together a kit or even a completed soft top that doesn't cause extra holes to be drilled in the truck, you'll have a line so long you won't be able to keep up with the initial orders.
Make a full top that includes a white or black color option in a modern fabric (sunbrella, etc.) that is somewhat waterproof and may even include door weatherstriping on velcro ( I haven"t thought too much about this have I) and folds down and I'd buy one.

Re: soft top

Yeah, a top that you can turn into a full top, to partial/no sides, to bikini would be awesome.
No drilled holes or snaps would be key, also.

Re: soft top

70 Sub, please do not take a lack of response as an indicator of the number of potential customers. For the last couple of years, following the announcement by BesTop that the company was ceasing production of its top for '69-'72 Blazers at the end of 2007, the members of this board have heard numerous variations on the theme of "I'm thinking about designing a kit," "...talking to a local upholstery shop," "...would you guys be interested," and so on.

Don't take this as a knock on your proposed venture. What I'm trying to say is, "build it and we will buy it." I'm not sure how you might go about getting an accurate count, but I'll estimate 8-10 orders right off the bat. Long-term, if the top turns out to be a winner in terms of quality, performance, ease of installation, service -- and, not least of all, price -- you would likely have a business on your hands that you could ride into retirement.

When you have the blueprint, materials vendors, fabrication facilities, projected cost of manufacturing, production timeline and everything else squared away, share the plan with the gang. There are plenty of folks around here with tons of hands-on experience with fabbing custom contraptions, job and materials costing, and other pieces of the puzzle who will gladly share their insights and comments.

That's the only way we'll all find out how much walking is behind the talking.

Count me in the first batch of orders. Good luck!

PS The newly reconfigured Can-Back company has indicated that it has plans to offer a 1st Gen top in the near future, perhaps as early as Q2 2010. See: http://www.can-back.com/

Re: soft top
