Post A couple of questions

I'm fixing to get my truck painted and don't want to get taken. What kind of paint should I use? And can someone explain what "pearl" means. thanks.

I had a buddy that painted his Volvo with house paint and a roller...looked kind of cool from about 100 ft...LOL! Sorry, just don't like to see a post go unattended!

I would go with a base/clear system - where they spray the color on first then spray on the clear coat for the shine and protection. Pearl is a paint additive that gives the paint a "Pearl" look in different lights.

I'm with ProSt. I'd go with base coat clear coat. My body man uses Dupont.

basecoat clearcoat will look the best, has that "always wet" look to it. pearl is actually pieces of Mica. kind of like a metallic paint but the mica is colored and is translucent. the metallic will lighten the overall look while the pearl will remain clear until the light hits it right. It will then reflect the light and for example make a dark blue look bright blue when the light hits it right. for a good example of a pearl go look at a new GM vehicle painted Indigo Blue. it may also say it is a metallic but really it is a pearl. on some lighter colors it gives more of that creamy translucent look, like a pearl. hope that helps

Nathan BTW I am using Martin Senior basecoat/clearcoat for my truck.

IMO, don't do pearl. I painted a car with a pearl and thought it was cool. The car got vandelized (broken in to and scratched) and nobody (including the guy who painted it) would attempt to repair the scratch. They said it would never match.
