trans failing-6.0 swap or 700R4
Alright my TH350 started making death noises today and leaking fluid badly.
I have a 700R4 that i could get rebuilt and keep going, my smallblock is almost brand new (4000 miles) but I've been itching to do a 6.0 swap and i have a line on a 6.0 and tranny for around $1000 How many have done a 5.3 or 6.0 swap?? any opinions welcome thanks

Re: trans failing-6.0 swap or 700R4
That's a great deal for a 6.0 and tranny (many miles on it?). Should be a 4l80e behind that 6.0 if they came together originally, which makes for a stout package. I would think you would spend at least that for a quality 700r4 rebuild, but you may spend another grand getting the LSX swap to all work......but in my opinion worth it in the long run.

Re: trans failing-6.0 swap or 700R4
I would pull the TH350 and spend ~$400 for a bench job at a tranny shop. it shouldn't take them more than 4 hours so you could have it done in a day or 2. then take my time on getting all the stuff needed for the LSx swap.
BTW, the 700R4 bench job will cost at least twice, maybe even tripple what a 350 does. Last edited by 68C15; 03-07-2009 at 07:11 AM. |

Re: trans failing-6.0 swap or 700R4
If money is tight just get a stock harness, and modify it, not as hard as you may think. They can be found for $100-150 all day long. Then get a PCM that's has the needed stuff removed/added for another $100ish and a fuel pump for around $100 and your up and running. A set of motor mounts can be had for a $100 or less and your all set. This all assumes the motor is 100% complete with all accessories and manifold. Not as expensive of a swap as some will lead you to believe. You will need some different gauges depending on tranny etc. What all is included for that $1000?

As far as wiring.
Street & Performance is who I used. But when I did my TPI swap they were the only folks who did any of it.
