Rhoads Lifters?
I was just wondering if anyone had used these, and if it's a good idea to get some when I get a new engine. They don't seem that much more expensive either, so if they wrok like it says in the add then I might get a set.

Well, they don't really cost anymore than regular lifters, so as long as no one has had any problems with them, I will probably try them.

Well, if they have lasted that long with no problems, then I guess that answers my question about the quality. lol For the price, even if they don't have as much effect as it says in the add thats still a good deal. I think they are like $64 a set.

I have used them in a 355 I built a few years ago.
They tend to be nosiy but they do seem to help out with the low end a bit. Make sure after you run the engine for a while that you re adjust your valves. They tend to change a bit over time and need a check every now and then. Good stuff though.

If you are runnin an Xe cam, they tend to be noisey anyway! good throttle response tho. If you dont go too big on the cam, you really dont need the roads lifters........

Where are you finding Rhoads lifters? I got a set years ago when they were in Snowflake, AZ, but I can't find them anymore.

ive got over 50000 miles on my rhoads cam and lifters with no problems. you can feel them kick in around 3000 to 3500 rpm. the clacking noise tends to get old after awhile. dont think i would use them again. between the gear drive and rhoads lifters, a little too noisy for a daily driver. must be getting old.

I bought a set 20 years ago. Havent bought a set since. Too loud. They make the engine sound like its having problems. Doesnt realy sound like solid lifters. Sounds more like engine problems. I got tired of people asking me if there was something wrong.

Mine are hardly noticeable. Maybe it's the exhaust leak that's drowning them out.

You only need them if your compression ratio is lower than what's recommended for your cam. They also are noisier than regular lifters. I think Crane makes the best ones (Hi-Intensity), and you can read about them at http://www.cranecams.com/master/lifter.htm

Ok, I guess I won't get them then. I am either going to get a Comp XE262, or mabe a 268H, and neither of those are too much for the rest of my engine.

You're right -- neither of the cams you mentioned needs variable duration lifters. Be sure to get the kit with cam, lifters, springs, retainers, and keepers. It's cheap insurance.
