Dang coil spring compressor

Well today I was doing some work with the spring and this is the result.
Finger is shattered, got appointment in 2 hours to have surgery to remove broken bones, nail and make me feel good. That's the bone pushing the nail up in the picture.

Re: F***ing coil spring compressor

Coil spring compressors are evil. I have been lucky not to have anything happen to me but, it wasn't for a lack of trying.

Re: F***ing coil spring compressor

Thats a good one. I had one that looked similar to it. Good news was it didn't hurt because I was in shock when I saw parts of it dangling by a strip of skin. Remember this. "It's going to feel like a slight bee sting".

Yowzahhh. That's bad. To think i just picked up a set of coil spring compressor from harbor freight and am going to use them on rear struts this weekend. And, to top it off, this is my first time using the cheap double clamp style ones. Are these the type you used? or did you have a wall mount?

Re: F***ing coil spring compressor

Back from the doc, they put a little hole in the finger and used a scope or some tool like that to remove the loose stuff and put the fingernail back in and siad that the chance of it growing back is 50/50 because the cells were damage.
Here's what I was working on before this happened.

Re: Dang coil spring compressor

this may be a total kick in the pants... if there's an engine in there, you didn't need the spring compressor.
Hope your finger heals up ok man.

There is way more than a bit of "pucker factor" there.

Here's hoping that you heal up fast.

i've heard bad things about the HF spring compressors...
when shopping there, always ask yourself, "how will this tool make me bleed WHEN (not if) it fails?"

Re: Dang coil spring compressor

ouch.. I had a clamp one fail before, when I was installing new struts.. good thing I had the other clamp on it.. I carefully put it in my truck, drove it over to a local mechanic and paid him to fix it... wasn't going to mess with them anymore...

Re: Dang coil spring compressor

Doc said my nail would not come back either. He said if he had the nail he'd try to splint it back in. I told him to check my pocket. It was busted in three places and too small to work with. I must say that not having it took some getting used to. It was weird having regular skin where the nail was. It took a long time but I grew another one.

Re: Dang coil spring compressor

Holy CRAP! I mashed mine this weekend, but not that bad! My Cherry picker decided to try to eat my finger as I was sliding the extendable legs back in, I got a nasty hunk of skin missing from the better part of my index finger but I am typing with it so it isn't too bad!? Just take two of those vicodin and have a beer or two and you won't feel a thing!! Repeat as necessary for pain!

Re: Dang coil spring compressor

So, it's been 3 days since this happened and I'm doing pretty good I think, the problem is that the bleeding is not completety stopped, my wife is a nurse and she does the gauss changing, she's a little concerned about the bleeding, however that could be my fault trying to get stuff out of my pockets and hitting the finger on things.

Most pain is when I leave my hand down and not keeping it elevated, then it starts throbbing and I hate that, however I have vicodin that takes some of the pain away.
I go see the Doc on Wednesday, hopefully he'll say the nail will be OK.

Re: Dang coil spring compressor

Let me get this straight. You broke your finger, doing work on the truck and now you are typing on the computer (Where fingers working is a GOOD thing) so that you can tell us trucknuts about it. That is dedication to the forum DUDE.
