Heated/power seats in old trucks?

What kind of wiring would it take to hook up seats like this in a 72 C10?Would you have to run it on a circuit breaker? Would the alternator have to be upgraded? Thanks for any help/ideas

We have a thing called an electric blanket here in the UK for your bed to warm it in the winter months....some guy modified one for a bench seat and layed it out between the seat foam and cover, did something clever with the electrics and put a toggle swith on the dash. Sorry can't be of any real help here but this made me remember.

i would run it through a circuit breaker "fuse" unless you want to see your wiring go up in flames!!

Someone on this site had a good page where he showed how he wired up some seats for his truck. I had the link can't find it now...

alot of the newer Silverados with leather have heated seats. also the Mercedes Benz ML and GL SUVs have nice heated seats.

Also, 2003+ Pontiac bonnevilles have similar seats, but a little smaller, IIRC. I own one

My Buick LeSabre (about 2004 - 2005 year) tan leather split bench, with center console - bucket-style backrest seat with heat both sides & both sides electric, & built-in seatbelts ............. is a pretty-comfy seat, & has the desirable thin-backrest, & is about the right width for the truck. And shame on me ---- I don't yet have it installed yet.

It has an approx 10-ga wire which supplies power feed to both driver & passenger side of the electric seat-tilt & travel adjustments, fed thru the driver's side seat, with a quick-disconnect plug-in connection.

Factory service manual showed the orange wire was hot, & black was ground, fused thru a 30a fuse to operate the seat & also to provide power to the heaters. Dealer said: "Most GM seats use the orange & black power combination." Both my Jeep Grand Cherokees also use a 30a fuse for the power seats.

I bought a 10 ga pigtail from the local O'Reilly's store which has an inline fuse socket that would fit the bigger full-size 30a fuse, & I plan to use that to direct-wire the seat in, with the fuse under the seat after it's in ........ just whenever I get off my dead-a$$ & go ahead & get it installed.

However, the heat settings were wired into a sensor variable temp setting of some kind which was built-in on the dash of the wrecked car that the seat came out of. Not yet sure how I'll deal with that heater-adjustment issue.

Not knowing how to do the heat hookup's what has been keeping me from getting it installed.
