How rare is 1968 GMC 1ton, and a few more questions, with pics
Mornin' guys!
I'm really just looking for a cab to steal doors, floor, and patch panels from, and I found this 68. I haven't seen many GMC 1tons, especially 67/68. How rare is this bird??? So, I'm looking at this rare bird and thinking about how neat it would be to have a '69 chevy that looked a lot more unique. There's quite a few 69/70's that roll in to the local car show, but not many GMCs. So I'm now considering using the whole cab and clip (my fenders are shot too... so WHY NOT?!?! 1. Is the 68 GMC cab the same as my '69? or at least same enough to use for patches? 2. Can I swap the GMC grill out for a 67/68 Chevy inner? 3. Is there any demand for a GMC clip and cab in this condition, or should I go ahead and part it out to get the parts to finish my '69?

The cabs should be basically the same. I think the grills will swap also.
Demand will depend on condition, and your area.

I would consider using the whole thing. The GMC's do look good finished out. Here is a '72 I completed and sold a while back.... LockDoc

The GMC grill will dictate the fenders and core support be used too.
The 67/68 chevy grill will work with those fenders, but you'll need a 67/68 core support from the same. |

Well, nobody is chiming in on the board claiming to have one, and IIRC, I haven't noticed any in the 1-ton thread. I found a '68 custom camper online, but that's it so far. Where can I find out how many '68 GMC tonners were made? Is it possible it would be 4x4? (I'm calling today to ask)

no 4X4 one tons built at all in 67 - 72.
you won't find any production numbers at all on any GMC in theis generation either, they were lost. The general number accepted is one in 4. However, that's a very gross way of doing it and only gives you a rough idea. Since GMC made more work trucks than pleasure rigs, thenI would say that there were considerably more than there are now, they were all used up and thrown away. |

I'm second in line, and the guy who's first is on his way to look at it right now... FINGERS CROSSED!!! He's a young guy who's thinking about putting it on a 90's chevy chassis. hopefully the dents and rust keep him from buying it. This one's a NY barnfind, for $500 cab and clip. Maybe I'll make a nice 2wd with a birch flatbed or something... It's so darn easy to put all of the rust repair on my '69 on the back burner!!

the VIN won't dictate a longhorn, but the model number on the spid will

Re: How rare is 1968 GMC 1ton, and a few more questions, with pics
Being as it is a 68 gmc, probably doesn't even have a spid. I have seen alot of 67-68 gmcs that never had them...

I have never seen a 67 or 68 with a SPID either.
