2wd conversion questions
Ok I have a 1970 Chevy on a 1981 Chevy 4x4 frame, the frame is cracked in a couple of spots and the cab and body are not mounted the best in the world, and I also have a 1970 2wd Chevy frame that I would like to use for the conversion, so I already have all the parts. I would also like to do something a little differently, I would like to keep the coil spring rear end. So my questions are,
#1 If I keep the coil spring rear end and flip the axle how much lift will it have? #2 I am looking at the DIY4X FGB52 kit for the front, if I get it, will it lift the front any or not? #3 In using the FGB52 kit for the front, will the 52" springs off of the 1981 fit?

Re: 2wd conversion questions
Flipping the rear axle should gain you 6-6.5" of lift. You will probably want to do something with your track bar, either lengthen it or make some sort of bracket to put it back at the right angle other wise your rear end will be shifted to the driver's side.
I don't know anything about the DIY kit but I think a few members here have installed it so I will let them chim in. I can tell you that the 2wd frame rail has a dimple on the drivers side front where the shackle would mount, this will need to be cut out and boxed in some how.

Re: 2wd conversion questions
I have another question also, will the 81 engine cross member work on the 70 frame?

Re: 2wd conversion questions
Edit to fully answer your questions:
1: Yes, the 52" (1981) rear springs will work in the front with the DIY4x kit. Tell Kert I said hi!. 2: Yes, the engine cross member will work, as will the trans/transfer case one. Heck, your driveshafts will probably fit... might be able to squeak em in by moving the front axle with the different holes on the DIY4x kit. Last edited by FormerMember; 04-02-2009 at 03:25 PM. |
