What is a better floor covering between carpet and rubber vinyl. I like the idea of not having carpet but it seems like rubber could keep moisture underneath it and promote rusting on the floors.

Both of my trucks have had rubber and have ben completely rusted out.

What have other people found in the trucks that they have worked on.

First off I would recommend repairing any leaks that would allow water in, then you should be able to use whatever you want.... I prefer rubber mats in 4x4's and work trucks and carpet in the cruisers...

Both of my trucks were completely gone when I got them. One of my trucks was a colorado transplant and then became a washington "farm truck". I am replacing the cab with a pretty solid one. Just looking for other opinions.

Carpet will hold water too if it gets under it.
The key is to get all the cab seems and holes fixed before you install either.

I have had several early broncos all of which had rubber or vinyl and the rust out result was a half and half. I was torn between the two and decided to go with carpet in my 72, black at that. It is going to be more of a cruiser though. I would do rubber if it was going to be a DD. Just my view.

After ripping out the yellow shag carpeting the PO installed, I went with rubber . Mainly because as stated, wearing muddy boots. I did install a sound deadening mat underneath the rubber. Then again, I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4X4 with carpeting and I just installed rubber mats from wallymart and they worked great too.

If I had to do it again...... I would go the cheaper route

In my years of looking at old cars and trucks in junkyards and privately owned, I found the rust issue is about the same. Since carpet is porous, you stand as much chance to get moisture trapped underneath it as you do a rubber mat. You just have to be diligent and keep rust out on whatever you choose.

My old GMC had rubber and no rust underneath it. And since I use my truck out in the country roads, I'm staying with it. I'd go with what you think you can live with and what you can spend on it.

price seems about the same between the two. I was leaning 85% to the rubber and I think I am all the way there now. Thanks for everyones input.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
