Re: Dash Light Problems

That's one I haven't heard of before. Gonna be hard to isolate since it only does it occasionally, but another thing you could do is to disconnect the brake lights switch and see if it still does it. You can isolate part of the wiring that way. You would have to do it in a place where having no brake lights would not cause a problem. Maybe a large parking lot.

And, while you're under the dash, look to see if there's any wires rubbing on the pedal parts.

Re: Dash Light Problems

Check your grounds.
I've seen some loose/bad grounds do some really, really weird stuff.

Re: Dash Light Problems

your bulbs have 2 filliments, one for parking lights, one for brake/turn signal. If the filliment for the brake/turn signal blows, and is hanging by one side, and dangles down to the parking light filliment, then when you hit the brakes, and energize the remains that are sitting there making contact to the parking light side, then when ever you hit the brake, the parking lights will get powered up to include, the dash lights.

Re: Dash Light Problems

You have the wrong bulbs in the brake lights. Most likely anyway.

GOOD POINT... did you get 1156, or 1157? They take the latter

Re: Dash Light Problems

I agree with longhorn to a point but i bet its a taillight socket. Fords are famous for it. What happens is the socket gets wet and grounds out causing a short then when you hit the brakes it backfeeds through the fusebox. Took me awhile first time i ran across that one.

Re: Dash Light Problems

at our shop, we have found that tail lignt bulbs are the number one cause of malfunctions, they cause a feed back thru the sytem when malfunction.
