parking brake strut

The mechanic told me that my parking brake strut is the incorrect one for my 1970 C10. Can anyone shed any light on whether that is correct info? I wouldve just prdered a couple of new ones, but havent found any yet.

He says it is too short and the groove is not wide enough... I'm measuring this one at about 7.5 inches.

Thanks for any advice.

Re: parking brake strut

the numbers I have say the drums should be discarded at 11.060 and mine are at 10.99 and 11.01. So they dont have another turning on them, but they are within spec.

As for the shoes I have to presume they are correct at this point. I will take a pic and compare to some found on the board.

The strut was too short before any parts were replaced and the e-brake was never hooked up.

Thanks.

Re: parking brake strut

i just had an light bulb go on in my head as I was looking at some board pics. Its too short due to the missing e-brake lever that goes behind the shoe is missing. they ordered that part and it will be in tomorrow. So hopefully it will work out.

Re: parking brake strut

I was going to say it looks just like mine and i have 12" drum. I also tried looking for those new one of mine was bent. Not so easy i tried all parts stores dealer even looking up under other applications. They say its a part that does not wear out so it does'nt need to be surviced. Good luck on that hope it all works out, i just ended up straightening mine cleaning and painting.
