54 project begins "Brotherly-love"

My brother and I are gettin' started on a 54 1/2 ton we just picked up a couple weeks ago. I'm basically a 60-66 guy and he's a mopar guy, so there's gonna be lots of dumb questions coming your way. Bad thing is, we got a basket case to start with. Already has a Camaro front clip with disk brakes and Camaro rear.

here's some pics from the day I picked it up about two weeks ago....

Re: 54 project begins "Brotherly-love"

It had been sandblasted and put in a barn, but had rusted back pretty bad, so we took it to the sandblaster to do it over. Here's some pics from when we picked it up yesterday....

Here's me goofin' off while my brother is blowing off all the grit from the sandblasting. "hey, don't this thing have power steering?"

and here's my brother workin' away....

Looks pretty solid to me unless there are surprises under the bondo. So what's the plan, slammed, pro stock, stock or???

well, the 350/turbo 350 mounts, crossmember and driveshaft are already there, so might as well go the easy route there. I'm just concerned because the frame looks really high off the ground to me. If I have to go bags, I can. But really looking for just low, not draggin' rockers.

"hey, don't this thing have power steering?"

Yes sir it does. It's that purple switch with pink dots on the column there. Freaken Army guy's...LOL! Looks like you guy's have a winner. From what I can tell all of the tin looks very solid. So, what's behind all the mud in the back of the cab? Looking from the inside of the cab, how does the back wall look? Does it look like they filled heavy dents or just minor stuff?

hey sarge, thanks. I think it looks okay so far. And, we're both freaken Army guys, and both Infantry. But, that was a real long time ago in southeast Asia.

It looks like the back of the cab is very minor stuff from what we can tell so far. We're gonna get it in etching primer right away since it's bare naked right now, plus it'll give us a better look once it's got some paint on it. I'll post some pics tomorrow once it's got some paint on it.

Wow, awesome start to a truck. I have to say when I first saw the rusted pictures I didnt think it would be as perfect blasted, But it looks like a VERY solid truck. Good job picking that one! cant wait to see more.

Re: 54 project begins "Brotherly-love"

got everything in etching primer, so now we can see the imperfections. The work that was done behind the cab ain't too bad. You can see where it still needs work though.

Re: 54 project begins "Brotherly-love"

got some work done today on the cab. first pics are with high-build primer. Now we can see the imperfections. Dents on the top of the roof that weren't visible before.
