"Electronic Control Box"? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Just came across an ad for a truck we're going to see tomorrow. One of the things in the ad has me puzzled, and I can't find any information on what it is talking about. Here is the ad - For a 1986 GMC Sierra 2500

156k miles (I think, odometer doesn't go to 100K's). Body in good condition. It has a long bed on it. It's a great hauler. Windshield is cracked. The front plastic grill is cracked. Newly rebuilt transmission. It needs to have the electronic control box replaced to allow for proper choke operation. I just don’t have the time to do the tune-ups needed and search for the parts. Asking $1,100/OBO. I'm moving and it can't come with me.

So the question is - What is this "electronic control box" that he's talking about? I thought the choke was automatic, depending on the temp of the engine. I didn't think there were any electronics involved. (Though my small bit of knowledge is limited to my 77 chevy)

Any ideas what he's talking about here that needs replaced and how much it's going to cost?

He's probably talking about the ECM. It's behind the glove box. You can find replacement at the boneyard for a few bucks.

I didn't think the ECM had anything to do with the choke. My buddy's 86 3/4 ton had a standard electric choke on it I believe. The ECM did control the distributor advance among other things.

That's what I thought. Perhaps it's running rough and he only thinks it's because of a sticky/broken choke. We'll see tomorrow.
