when i got my truck,the yahoo decided he didn't like the original placement of the rearview mirror so he musta patched it up the upper part of the cab and stuck a windshield mounted mirror on.what i was wantin' to know is what is the amt. of space between the inner skin of the cab and the outer(roof)of the cab.i'm gonna need to drill the mounting screws' holes and don't want to go to far into the outer skin.plus i need to know the length of the s/s sheetmetal screws i'll need to get to mount the arm.anyone's knowledge is appreciated!

There seems to be lots of Yahoos in the world! Cleaning up after them is a challenge!

I would not drill over 1/4 inch deep and use 3/8" long screws for mounting. Set up a spacer block so that you don't overdrill and go through the outer skin. I believe that there is approximately 3/4" space in between the two layers but it is best to be safe.

The rearview mirror was an option untill '70...so it may have never came with one.

Thanks for pointing out that the mirror was an option. That is similiar to the Blazer tops which were an option!

(Along with the back seat and passenger seat).

My paneltruck came with 3 options Turbo 400, 12bolt posi with 4:10 gears, and a passenger seat.

When i was new to the board, I was asking the same Q about my GMC. It had he older style mirror, and it was mounted off center too. Some one pointed it out to me, and I (quietly) thought he was full of ca-ca. Turns out he (whom ever he is) was right acording to my '69 restoration catalog.
In '70 it became standard equipment.
