my 69 on a dynojet.
I took my 69 to get some hp numbers at the wheels. All stock 69c10 truck with almost stock pontiac 400. Best pull 310 hp at the wheels. After heat soak numbers droped to 302hp. After secondary rods change got it back to 304hp. So it's basicly 304 hp at the wheels. 304hp at 5200 rpm and 342 max torque. All on 89 octane gas. We tryed 91 and no difference. I need to get a power trax locker next and maybe some passes.

Those are really rather strong #'s considering a stock LS1 Camaro only makes between 290-320HP at the wheels. That thing should move out rather nicely for you.

I've always said, GM made a bunch of great truck motors... but never put them in trucks.

Thanks guys. My main consern was an air/fuel ratio and vibration at 3000rpm and up. Qjet was running out of gas with a mechanical pump. I installed a carter pusher electric pump and problem was solved. No vibration on the dyno. So my drivetrain is ok. It's a front tires and wore out lower ball joints. Balljoints have about 1/4" of play.
Motor is .030 over, trw forged pistons, resized rods with arp bolts. Block was 0 decked and squared. Stock crank 10/10. 002" clearence on rods and mains. Heads were machined .060 to 89cc. I did a home port job, nothing big. Comp cam XE268H with 1.5HS rockers. I spend 2 weekends playing with a Qjet, resizing idle tubes, air bleeds and idle restriction channels and some other stuff. Ebay HEI guted with msd parts. Most of it is a good machine work. Stock torque converter was slipping and stalling at 25-2700 rpm. It also makes whining noise in the cold mornings. I have 11"tci 2500 ready to go. I just need motivation to install it. |

What number heads are your running Serge? Those are good numbers. The good thing about a Pontiac is that they are easy to get power out of, even in mild form. I am big Poncho fan myself. I have a '71 GT-37 and '67 Firebird 400 4 speed car that I wish I had the time and money to restore.

4.10 gears with an open rear end. After doing some burnouts both tires are spinning now, so it's kinda cool. I will get a power trax locker soon.
James, it's a 6x-4 heads with 1.77 exhaust valves. |

My odd-ball diff does that too, but in reverse. My 1st burnouts in the truck were posi-style, but it won't spin them both any more... I liked rolling out sideways for 50 feet,ya know!

I know that I can get some more out of it with better mufflers. Now it has $17 summit mufflers. One of them is blown.

The 6X's are pretty good despite being from an era when most everything else wasn't. I have a '73 455 4X's with and a '76 455 with 6H's but the one I want to build the most is a 390HP 428 out of a '68 Grand Prix. Its a rare 4 bolt 428 block, and the #16 heads. Royal Pontiac and Myrtle Motors both put 428's in Firebirds and GTO's back in the day to compete with Baldwin Motion, Nickey, and Yenko's 427's that they were putting in the Chevy's. You buy a brand new Firebird or GTO from either of them, and if you had the extra cash, you could leave the lot in an 11 second car! I want to put the 428 in the '67 Firebird. I have always dreamed of making pretty radical while looking stock. I have seen 500 + HP Pontiacs with stock high rise intakes and Ram Air manifolds and a Q-jet. I'd love to reproduce one of the sleepers that Royal and especially Myrtle was putting out back then.
