No more 16.5 Mud Terrains!!

I just found out BF Goodrich doesn't make 33X12.5X16.5 Mud Terrains anymore. I bought a new set 5 years ago and they probably only have 2 or 3 thousand miles on them but it's disturbing to know that I can't replace them if they wear out. I don't really like the look of the All Terrain but I guess that's how it goes. I guess someday I'll just have turn $1200 worth of Weld Super Singles into barstools.

And:

Parnelli Jones Dirt Grips.

They have about 4 tires in 16.5 sizes.

Meh, never was a fan of 16.5's anyway. Tires with that wheel size seems to like to fall off the bead real easy. They were always a SOB to mount and air up on wheels when I busted tires as a kid working at my dads shop.

If is wasn't for the easy availability and popularity of the bead locked humvee wheels in the offroad community, 16.5" tires would probably be completely dead already.

Yup!
This is the only reason I run 16.5...without a beadlock you can't safely go below 15psi, anything lower and you are a risk of loosing a bead.
With recenterd H1s I can run 0psi if I want hehehe

It's true. 16.5's are going away. Not sure that Mickey Thompson has any.

Re: No more 16.5 Mud Terrains!!

I have the all terrains on mine. Those are my personal preference for my 4x4. If I could have found some 15 inch stock style 8 lug steel rims for my K20 I would have rather gone that way. Going to be a bummer when I need new tires. Im sure BFG is probably going to phase this style out too =(

The government does not and never has sold Humvees to the public. There were some Marine units that made it out through a loophole many years ago to a government contractor and they made it to the public. That loophole was then closed. There are some out there but, not likely to have the extra armor. They do sell some parts for Humvees on GL auctions

12.50/33 is the one 16.5 that many tire companies still make.I`m surprised BFG stopped making the M/T in that size.

Re: No more 16.5 Mud Terrains!!

I just realized I need 16.5s and I have bfgs on mine. And the deal i was going to get I think ended.

I know where to get a frame from a humvee just no body. I wonder how much it would be to armor my truck, never know if something crazy is going to happen with times like these.

A collector her has a miltary Humvee but it had been cut in half by the military. I think they do that to keep the public from getting them.

They do get sold as salvage after being "de-militarized. here's one ready for sale.

This is what they did with the old jeeps after they were determined to be unsafe for the public.

Re: No more 16.5 Mud Terrains!!

Is BFG stopping 12.50/33x16.5s or is the distributor stopping carrying them?I was told AR23 wheels where discontinued by a major distibutor.I jumped on a new set from a wheel vendor at a swap meet just to have a set. Then, later that year I start seeing them in all the big picture ads in 4wd mags. The distibutor just wanted me to choose from what they chose to stock.

There`s a guy in town that rebuilds military Humvees,as well as anything else.We have all kinds of Humvees running around town.

Re: No more 16.5 Mud Terrains!!

The 16.5 tire size seems almost extinct on the BFG website. Maybe they are tired of getting sued by morons that are still mounting them on 16" rims and getting hurt. Maybe they are about to intro a new tire line and have been using up old stock inventory. ?????

I think your right about people trying to put them on 16 in rims because all the new tires i have been seeing say on the side only mount on __in rims
