Green Monster Interior Refresh

The interior was a bit faded so I have been working on giving it a face lift to bring it back to original appearance. Here is what I started with.

Re: Green Monster Interior Refresh

I purchased new carpet so I removed the old carpet. I found some rust on the floor boards where they meet the kick panels. New metal installed, the was ground and covered with epoxy and the rockers were sanded and repainted.

Re: Green Monster Interior Refresh

That's it for pictures now. I installed new heater and A/C hoses, vents, glove box emblem, new glove box liner, horn button. New ignition bezel, chrome ashtrays, and ignition indicator. The rear seat armrest bars and roll bar are painted. I refreshed the center console and painted new rear armrest pads. I have a new instrument cluster rebuild parts on order with vac gauge. I busted the driver defrost vent when replacing the hoses so I have new vents coming. I already color matched the vents and will paint them to exactly match the flat green dash. Right now I'm removing the old weather strip adhesive to ensure the new weather striping adheres properly. I hope to have the interior back together for the Ocean City Maryland Cruisin' Weekend in May.

Re: Green Monster Interior Refresh

Did you do anything about the cracked seat backs? I have the same problem and almost the exact same crack on the driver's side seat back. I hate to replace them and have the repops do the same thing.

What did you paint the defrost vent's with. I busted one of mine too. I have the black repops, but my dash i sandalwood.

Is that fatmat ?

Very nice looking blazer. Glad to see you are preserving it while not letting it deteriorate. Hope the blazer I get someday is as nice as yours.

Re: Green Monster Interior Refresh

Thanks for the words of encouragement, I'll keep you posted with further developments.

The front floor boards are covered with POR-15 then closed cell foam. Sorry guys... I did not do the rust repair or paint work. I paid someone to fix it for me. I wanted it done right and I did not want to mess anything up. The rear was done with Dyna-mat be the previous owner. I was going to rip it out, but I did not see the point since I did not find ANY rust back there.

I have new reproduction seatbacks that came in black. I have already painted them the same green as the rear arm rests and center console.

I can't remember what type of interior paint I bought, it's at home and I'm at work now. I'll check. There were about 30 green color swatches to choose from and I found one that looks very close to the original color (I'm particular about things looking right).

I would like to put a new dash in there to get rid of the cut dash to accomodate the aftermarket CD player. LMC has a new "modern stereo" that fits in the stock location with a mini USB port to accept an MP3 player or other media device.

Have you considered a radio delete to cover the hole and putting a stereo in the center console? I have a CD head unit and 6-disc in my console and the AM/8-track the original owner installed filling the hole in the dash.

I pulled this photo from the site years ago. It is basically what I did, but it's not mine.

That's really cool looking. I really just want to preserve the Blazer to look stock with exception of the lift kit, wheels, and tires. I don't think a radio delete will look better than the radio I have on there right now.

That was my goal as well. The original owner had the dash cut to hold the AM/8track and I really don't want to go to the work of welding in a new piece. I also wanted to keep my electronics concealed as much as possible since the truck has the top off most of the time I'm driving it and it isn't very secure. At least hiding it takes away some temptation.

If the dash wasn't cut, I'd probably go with one of the secret audio type systems. There are several manufactures, so look beyond what LMC offers.

http://www.retrosoundusa.com/products/details/id/93(I believe this is what LMC sells)

Re: Green Monster Interior Refresh

I have a CAS unit for my 1st gen firebird, but haven't installed it yet. Looks good. Keeps the old school feel, but yet has digital tuning, USB input etc. Knobs and face are chrome plastic. Probably similar to what the original was. I'm not dissappointed in the quality, but it just feels a little bit cheaper than it looks on the website if you sorta know what I mean. But again, I haven't installed it yet. I got that 630 model. No Tape. I didn't get the CD changer either. I figured I'd get only of those flash drive things and just put my music on that and secure it behind the dash.

Lookin' good over there.

I used SEM samples at a local body shop supply distributer to get the right color green. The guy at the shop made up a pint for me. I'm waiting for the vents to show up then I'll get them painted. I think I'll have to coat them with a flat clear coat to take the gloss off of them.
