old red 69
Hi to all. I have been watching u guys build some really great trucks, and wanted to share my build with you all. I dropped her off at the body shop after removing the engine and interior. I am lucky enough that the body shop owner has become a friend of mine and allows me to come to the shop and help out. I told him I wanted to be a hands on guy, and he said the more I do the less he has to, and of course the more money I save. And he lets me use his tools!
What she looked like before and her crate 350/350 combo.

Now with the engine out, and some parts removed.

Re: old red 69
You can see from previous pics that the in cab tank is going away and the opening was welded. I will be adding a new wire harness from E-Z wiring, so we will see how that goes. In the engine bay will be going in a 92 corvette LT1 that has been converted to LT4, supposed 425 horses, with the 700r tranny. The roof was about the only bad spot on the whole truck. Guess that is a good thing!

Re: old red 69
Thanks guys. The cab got the primor on it, the frame was sand blasted and then painted HOT ROD BLACK. I think it looks good, and considering we did not plan on taking the cab off, it was worth it. Also removed the front cross member and replaced it with a 85 that was completely rebuilt about 2 years ago, has disc brakes. That was not to bad to do, and got the information on how 2 from this great site.

Re: old red 69
Got the truck back yesterday from the body shop. It is my turn, need to get the wiring done, rear axles drilled to 5 lug, and the engine in so it can get back to the body shop for the fenders, doors and hood to be fitted before paint. The firewall and part of the inside was painted. Got the engine painted and will try some test fitting this weekend, hopefully!

Re: old red 69
Thanks guys. The blue is growing on me, and looking better and better to me. The engine is pretty sweet, it sounds CRAZY COOL. I will have to fit as much of the exhaust from the donner truck, has 3 in with flowmasters. I am using the engine mounts from a 85, and I guess that the frame is taller so I am going to set the engine in, and have to build spacers to make up the gat from the mount to the frame, looks like it will be about an inch. Will try and post pics tonight.

Re: old red 69
That thing looked good before the tear down. Cant wait to see it painted. Are you going solid blue or two tone blue and white?

Re: old red 69
I will try and get some pics on tonight of the engine sitting in it's place. The color is going to be all blue with a silver metallic stripe that is based off the yenko! It will have a cowl hood with the Z stripes on it in silver. I have a drawing of what it will look like, and will take a picture of it and try to post.

Re: old red 69
Well, got the engine in, but the motor mounts that I am using out of an 85, well they are 2 tall. And the engine is not strait. Did some measurements, and the back of the trans sits almost 2 inches off center. You can see by the pics also that I am going to have to build spacers to make up the gap of motor mounts to frame. Anyone else out there run across either the alignment issue, or motor mount issue?
And if the pic is clear enough of the drawing of the truck, this is what I hope it will look like when it is all done!

Re: old red 69
It is a metallic, and the silver stripe is going to be the same type metallic paint. I will ask my body man tomorrow and get the color and get back with you guys. I think the black and blue go great together, then the silver on the outside should look great! i hope anyway!

Re: old red 69
Stopped by and looked at the bed of the truck today, and asked about the paint. It does not have a name, just a code and color turquoise blue metallic. I can get you guys the code if you really want it. Picked up the hood, core support and the inner fender that I needed. If I can ever get time to figure out the motor mount problem i am having, and get the wire run, I can get the truck back to the shop for some fitting.. I see why some of these projects take so long! Thanks for all the kind words about the project!!!!

Re: old red 69
Been a while. Still trying to get time to do the rewiring of the truck, so I can then get the PCM, and all the wires from the doner truck for the LT4 to run. Here are some pictures of the bed with the role pan. Stake pockets are shaved now.

Re: old red 69
Some more progress. VERY VERY SLOW! I am hoping to get more done this week then I have in the last couple of weeks. got the floor board cleaned up and hit it with rust converter before i hit it with some undercoating. then the underside with rust converter on one side, pics shows on side converted and the other side not. Will undercoat both sides when they are done. You can see that I might be having to do something with the exhaust, the headers are right on the frame rail.. Tight fit, but wont know how bad until i can get the exhaust off the doner truck for a test fit. then I have the sub gas tank to try and fit in as well. The the lokar throttle cable. I will probably have to use the peddle from the 85 as well. I have removed engines, trany's, rear ends all together, but this is way more then I have ever done. So that is the reason it is so slow going. it is lots of fun though!!!!!!!

Re: old red 69
The tank it out of a suburban. Not sure of year. My brother had it in his 85c, but it is not going to fit between the frame rails. I need to look at the 85 again, i think they had cut out the part of the rear frame and welded in some tubing to make it all work. It is nice, but not sure if I will be able to use it after all.

Re: old red 69
It has been a while with out updates. it is been slow because of the fuel tank, and working allot. The tank I was going to use will not work for me without lots of mods, so I purchased a fuelcellguy tank and looking forward to getting it. Hopefully I will be able to get moving again, with the wiring coming next. i fabed up a pieced to cover the hole from the old fuse block. Hope to start running wires real soon.
