my truck is inside, but not a heated garage. I use card board or carpet under the truck to suck up the humidity, & have heard that if you leave the windows cracked you wont have problems with the interior........must be something to it, I havent got the door glass back in after chopping the top, & dont have any trouble with the inside getting "groaty".........

Go to your local RV store or Wallmart and pick up some humidity catchers. They're a little bucket type device that you add some crystals to. Or just put an electric heater in it when stored. Don't forget to unplug it when your leave, lol

I second leRoy on that. Also, if your seat cover and carpet are molding out on you, remove them from the truck and store in a dry place. Mold growing on vinyl and other areas? Wipe down with a mild bleach solution.

I had a moisture problem in my shop. My tools were rusting, had mold growing on the walls and a lake on the floor. Broke down and bought a dehumifier from grainger. I removes 4 gallons of water a day from the shop after putting it on a timer for 8 hours a day and the mold has disappered, the tools don't rust and my lake is gone. Best money I have spent on preserving my trucks and tools.

I would definitely go with the moisture traps if your truck is outside and you need to keep the windows closed. I have used them on various cars over the years and whilst they may not stop the problem entirely they do make a difference. Just be careful with the water that collects because the crystals dissolve into it as they trap the moisture and it becomes corrosive (Alkaline) so don't let it get too full before you have to move it to empty it. If you truck is in a secure garage leave the windows open, nothing works better than airflow!

(the moisture traps work best in a sealed environment so probably won't help much with the windows open as you will be trying to dehumidify your entire garage!)

This sounds strange, but it really works.
Have a vehicle I have stored under a car cover for the last 3 winters. Get a pan/tub/whatever and fill it with scented kitty litter. It soaks up the moisture and the vehicle smells like new. (plus it freaks out the mice) |
