radiator

this is the last thing i need to get worked out for my 6.0l lq4. i need a radiator with a transmission cooler that will cool my 6.0l lq4 properly that is not too wide for my 66. also i need an oil cooler for it. if yall could point me in the right direction or tell me what yall have used i would appreciate it greatly.

The factory 4-core Harrison Desert Cooler with the tranny lines connectors in the bottom tank will do the trick. I would add an auxillary tranny cooler, as well as, a flex fan with a factory radiator shroud. These items are a direct-bolt in and will fit between the inner fenders in the lower radiator cradles and upper radiator mount.

Have you looked at the summit universal aluminum radiators? They will require some fabrication to mount, but they are a good radiator.

This one will fit without trimming to the inner fenders.

Can't help on the radiator ?? because I haven't made it that far yet. On the external tranny cooler and oil cooler though, go to a local u-pull-it type yard and scavenge them from a later model truck that had the towing package. There were even passenger cars that had the oil coolers too. Just spend some time poking around and there's no telling what you will run across.The good thing about it is you won't be looking at much $$$ outlay.

On second thought, when you go to the "yard" be prepared with a tape measure and start measuring different radiators that will fit in the necessary opening that are of decent size(core thickness). You might find something that will work for @ $20 or so.

I have the summit radiator for my truck. I mocked it up but that is about it. I think it is the 27", and I did remove the battery from the engine compartment.

That is an outstanding looking unit - mucho surface area for cooling.

Are you going to have to run a zinc diode to keep the different metals from reacting with each other? I thought about doing the same set-up because of the excellent Summit Racing radiator prices - but with the way I work we'd still be talking about starting the new engine in 2010.

This is the one I used in my '64 5.3 4l60e.Stock 5.3 fan no shroud runs at the same temp as my '02 Silverado.

I would try and use the factory 4-Core with trans cooler shroud and clutch fan.

I think I am going to redo the hold down. I want to make it a bit bigger and tack some tabs in and use a rubber mounting system instead. This way no metal is touching it. I might even have the hold down bent with Stainless steel or just paint it.

If you're trying to find one in the junkyard, you'll need to look for something in a mid to late 60's Chevy passenger car (Camaro, Nova, Chevelle, etc). Otherwise you'll need to modify your inner fenders because most newer radiators are wider than what will fit into your truck without modification

I have one of those and Im really happy with it. It fits perfectly. The only problem is the trans cooler does not work at all. I have a trans temp gauge and I found the cooler does not work. I use an external trans cooler now.
