power steering hoses

so i have developed a power steering leak, i checked it out and it was coming from the hoses

so i go to take them off and there is just no way so i end up taking the whole pump off

now that i have it off i cant seperate one of the hoses from this other part, ill try my best to explain, one hose was held on with just hose clamps, no problem, the other one has metal that has been clamped down on the rubber so i decided to take the metal hoses off too, that was fine on the other end but on the pump end, the end of the hose connects to another piece on the pump and they wont seperate

any advice on how to seperate these?

That sounds like the High pressure hose.They can build up to 2100 psi and can be dangerous if you try to replace the rubber hose only.Parts places and dealerships sell these with the pre bent tubing and fittings as a unit............If you are having trouble with the fittings you might need a line wrench to help

i know that now after i bought the new hose,but it is after the end of the metal on the hose, on the pump end the metal on the hose connects to a part on the pump, when i unscrewed the hose that part came with it and i need help separating them

what i think you are saying is there is a fitting between the pump and the hose almost like a reducer? if so can you place the fitting in a vice and use a line wrench to seperate the two? on edit there may be suppoused to be a washer between the two or an o ring to prevent this sort of thing

Ok guys. The fitting that came out is the pressure regulator plunger retainer. Make sure you don't loose the plunger or the spring. Next, put the fitting in a vise and tighten it down. Careful of the threads. If you don't have line wrenches or have rounded the nut, cut the line flush with the retainer and heat it up just a bit and use a 6 point socket on it. If that doesn't work, get it warm again and use a pipe wrench very carefully. jim
