ground hawg mud terrains
i have a chance to get ground hawgs that are 37s which i need but im wondering how they grip the mud compared to boggers. They're both made by interco tires but it says the ground hawgs are made for deep mud and slinging it around, where boggers do pretty much the same thing. just want some input.

Re: ground hawg mud terrains
the only thing I've heared about ground hawgs is they wear like crap, and get really choppy if used on pavement... but then again thats what ALL tires with tread that agressive will do.

Re: ground hawg mud terrains
I've had both bias and radial Ground Hawgs. They work great in mud, are OK in sand(when aired down), will track in road ruts bad, and take a while to warm up to true themselves. When cold they tend to get a little lopsided, but after driving a while they will ride fine.
Never taken them rockcrawling, so not sure about that, and they did OK in the snow, and good in rain. |

Re: ground hawg mud terrains
Ground Hogs go good forward and not so good backward. They are more of a directional tread.

Re: ground hawg mud terrains
So you think I should save for the boggers instead?

Re: ground hawg mud terrains
Boggers are about the most serious mud tire made. The aren't really that bad on the hwy. I don't know what the price difffernce is in them and the Hogs.

Re: ground hawg mud terrains
You are going to swap between stock and 37" tires?

Re: ground hawg mud terrains
There are Ground Hawgs and there are Mud Terrains.
Both the Ground Hawgs and Boggers are directional tread.Aren`t Ground Hawgs made by Gateway, the company that brought us the first over 33" big tires*,Monster Mudders?Or,did they sell out to Interco?I never ran directional tires because my style is go as far into the mud as you can.As long as I can back up I ain`t getting stuck.Directionals, too me,are good for bogging...ram it as far as you can go,then get dragged back out if you don`t make it.They are both the best gaurantee you won`t need to be backing up. *Made for light trucks. Not including Goodyear Terra and other impliment/equipment tires.

Re: ground hawg mud terrains
Ground Hawgs are made by Denman. The biggest thing with Hawgs vs Boggers is the Boggers are made from a soft compound where Hawgs are a harder compound. The Hawgs would last longer on the street...

Re: ground hawg mud terrains
im going to swap between stock and 37s because i hate the fact that anything with agressive thread wears really fast in the middle then you can't go through anything.
And they are made by interco see http://www.intercotire.com/tires.php?id=4&g=1 o someone i know got stuck and he didnt want to get out in the mud to hook the straps so everyone left him there, he had to dig his way out in the end.

Re: ground hawg mud terrains
iv had a bunch of ground hawgs, loved em, i mainly loved the LOUD sound they make coming down the road, plus they did good in the little mud they seen. and i agree with the flat spots after they sit awhile in the cold youll lose a few teeth until they warm up.

Re: ground hawg mud terrains
Ground Hawgs used to be made by Denman for sure. Back in the day Regul Trailblazer, Gumbo Mudder, and Ground Hawg were the "big" tires....back when 17x40 was the biggest DOT approved size. Interco Super Swampers came along later and IIRC were the first 42s. Then came the 44, which pretty much came from all of them at the same time.
They were all bias-ply tires that were known for "flatspotting" from sitting. It was even worse up north in the cold weather. The flatspots would actually freeze, so it took even longer to work them out. They were all fairly loud, but spending a little money to get them "trued" helps that a lot, along with the ride. "Round" tires really do ride better......LOL
