Stretched Cabs?
well im starting on planning on what im gonna do to the truck, even though i dont plan on starting the build for a few years. and since i stand 6'5 iv been thinking of stretching the cab, kinda like a crewcab build but the doors are stretched as well. has anyone done this or have pics of trucks that have stretched cabs?

a few years ago I had Zumo (IIRC) do a PS of mine with a 4" stretch down the middle. it looks perfect with a long box.

Within the past 5 years, there was a feature done in Classic Trucks magazine on a '69 that had been stretched. In the article, one of GM's designers was at the show in Dallas where this truck was being shown. This particular truck was stretched between the front and rear of the cab, and I believe it had a dash from a '95-98 in it. The gist of it was that the designer who saw it commented that aside from the dash, the exterior was proportional and he thought it could have been a prototype...it was that good. The truck was built in the Dallas/FtWorth area and was painted silver. Hopefully, someone has a pix of this one and will post it.

thats funny..I was just thinking of what an extended cab might be like for my '68. Like taking the back half of a wrecked or rusted out cab and making and extended cab short bed like my 2004 is. I guess a suburban frame would be needed probably. Anyone seen an ext cab 67-72?

Seems like 6 inches was added to the one I described above. The bed had to shortened a like amount or a chassis had to be extended the same amount in order for the proportions to be retained. Aesthetics are a big part of any alterations. If they are right, the look will be nice. I guess the ones that make me cringe, in spite of what they are, are the crew cabs that use a second set of doors with vent windows and then have a shortened bed to keep it all on a LWB chassis. It just don't look right, to me.

I only wanted to do 3" & was thinking off adding it in the C/L of the cab as well. I would then cut the front of the bed down a similar amount to maintain a similar wheelbase vs. OE. My buddy mentioned this guy was doing something similar & took me by his shop to show me what was involved. After seeing everything that he had to do, I decided it was a buuuuuuuuunch of work for the mini-scule 3" I was after & nixed the idea. While I really like his (the owners name is Mike), the 6" stretch was a tad too much for me even though his proportions were (are) dead-on. The dash is a modified stock 67-72 that was stretched accordingly to keep the seating-to-dash dimensions close to original. I have some pics of the truck I can post up later (I'm @ work & they're on my home 'puter).

that truck looks very similar tp the one scoti is talkin bout. got some pics in an old classis trucks mag. the bed is original style but the steps were made by using opposite side cab corners upside down under the steps

ive been thinkin around 6 inches, 8 max, that way the truck still looks porportioned without sacrificing the leg room i need. plus i think it would give more of an agressive look.
