E-Z wiring question

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone is using this E-Z wiring harness, and if so, how did you attach the fuse block to the firewall and run your wires? I am at a loss and looking for idea's. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

screws? I used self tapping screws for mine and chose alternative routing for the wires. I have yet to cover the square hole left where the old fuse block was, but that should be simple.

I am going to watch this cause I am planning on using one myself . I have a shaved firewall and no holes to run any wires thru . I want to see about going thru the floor .

i used selftapping screws to secure it to the firewall.. and all the wires that need to go into the engine compartment i used the stck bulkhead connector.

to use the stock bulkhead connector i bought all new connectors that plug into the bulkhead.. the connectors are called packard 56 connectors.. they can be bought from Classic Parts..

You guys make it sound so easy. It is just like anything else i guess, just dive in, take my time, and hope for the best. If you guys have pics of how you ran the wires, that would help me out for sure.

Thanks for the pics, they sure make a big difference when trying to undertand. I knew I was going to screws, but the real problem was how to run the wires through the firewall, I can see now when I start separating the wires, it will make more sense to me and be easier then I thought.

I also used the same kit on my 67. Just like Jim, I reused the same 2 factory bolt holes.(a little tight but doable) I then cut a stainless steel plate (about 3" by 4") with the correct size hole for the rubber grommet for the wiring. This plate is on the engine side of the firewall. Cleans it up real nice. I will try to find a photo but that may not happen til Sunday Night as I am away from home.

I shaved my fire wall, so I filled in square holes where the factory wiring harness went though, and I believe I just used the factory bolt holes. I'll use a nice stainless looking bolt to secure it. For the wiring I'm going to run some of the wire through the factory hole that is above the fuse panel, and then I cut a hole "inside" the cab frame to run the tailight and rear wires though so there is less coming through the upper hole.

Hey all, thanks for all the pics and info. I am just now getting to the actual wiring, and was wondering if you all had to splice the wires together to use the half moon connector for the steering column, and the ignition switch? Neither of the plugs they sent with the kit will fit the half moon. Nor will the plugs they have for the ignition switch work either. So I figured I would have to cut the plugs off the old harness and use them. Is this what you all have done with your kits????

I had spliced on the harnes column wiring to the half moon connector and the ignition, I had to refer to my 67 wiring diagram, its an easy hook up though to the wiring harness. Theres a link on here somewhere with our trucks wiring schematic. Also if youre using the factory guages youll have to splice on the factory harness for that as well, The one that got my goat though was the light switch. Just take your time and think things out when wiring the dash and column

Thanks for the quick response. I am thinking that it might have been better to have purchased the painless harness, but DANG! For the money, I have heard some guys having problems with that as well. But if all I have to do is splice the plugs in, and everything else works great, well worth the savings!

Has anyone here used the mini 12 or 20 from Ez wiring?
The wires come out the side of the block instead of the back.
It 20.00 cheaper for the mini 20 versus standard 20.
sounds like a good deal.

Im hooking up an ez kit to a 62 chevy now siting on a 79 chevy 3/4 ton 4wd frame, talk about modding the ez harness!!!

Im definatly gonna be following this, im also planning on getting the EZ wiring harness, i mean you cant beat the price!! even if it does take a bit more work, so when you are doing your install be sure to take plenty of pictures of the install to help us out!!

Thanks Michael. When I get to the dash I will let you know. However mine should be easier, since I have a Dakota Digital dash. I dont think it would be as hard as your project and splicing! I wonder what the mini fuse would have been like. But that is what this site is about, helping us all figure out the easyest ways to do things, through trial and error! I will be taking pleanty of pictures as I go, and hope to start this weekend on it!

i have done about 5 vehicles with the ez wiring setup all different and havent had any problems. ive used painless and hated it. ive done a mustang a 69 c10 a camaro a 51 mercury and a 47 chevy and they worked great in all

Well, that sucks to hear about the painless harness because I have one for my 71 camaro, and have not even started that yet. What was so bad about the painless?? What reason did you hate it??

i just kept having so many problems with things not fiting properly and not connecting the way they claimed and in my experience their customer serivce was lacking in helping and i kept having to get new things to make it work. but i know a lot of people that havent had any problems installing it so its just another one of those things i think. but havent had any bad luck with the ez wiring as long as you pay attention i think youll be fine.

I will definately take my time on this. after pulling out lots of loose wires for misc stuff like radio, speaker wires, and getting to the nitty gritty, it does not look like it will be so bad! Just like you said, getting the plugs spliced in and all should be good.
Hope the fires were not to close to you! That was a real bad deal man!!!

yeah the fires were about 2 miles behind me. i was just glad that the winds kept blowing it north but felt bad for all the homes that werent so lucky

I used the EZ wiring harness and I welded threaded studs to the firewall and just put locking nuts to hold it down. I had to patch my firewall in that area anyway so I just drilled a new hole and used a grommet to route the wires to the engine compartment.
