100% original trucks

i saw one the 67-72 forum that someone made a post about 100% original rides and am curious to see how many of you have rides that are 100% original or close to it....mine has only had things changed as they needed to be fixed. water pump, tun-up, battery, tires, and soon to be a carb. rebuild.

Re: 100% original trucks

Mine is box stock with the exception of the paint job and the wheels. I don't plan on changing the configuration much either. About the only things I would like to ad are factory A\C and cruise control. Other work listed below hasn't been started yet cause it's just to cold out yet. jim

Re: 100% original trucks

Man I can't wait til I get a new camera phone and I can show yall the
78 Silverado I just got, it's cleaner and more original than I ever hoped to find.
I don't think anything has been changed but the paint is a little off and aftermarket wheels.

My 77 has parts off of at least 5 other trucks, only the cab and the frame
are original lol.

Pics coming soon!

Re: 100% original trucks

james McClure..i have always been a sucker for the 4x4 long boxes that is one nice truck you have...

other than the necessary repairs my short box is so original that the factory spair still has the white ink on the tread (not that i would trust a 25 year old tire enough to actually use it) and i know i atleast need to add a radio some day, but i am too affraid to disturb the dash since the dash pad is flawless and we all know how they like to crack.

That's after I brought mine home. Paint job isn't original, but it was a two tone burgundy/off white color from the factory.

thats a nice clean truck...looks like you better get the aftermarket hood renforcments before that hood gets any worse, unless its already split the sheet metal

First picture is when I brought it home from the junkyard. Second picture is of the interior after cleaning. Third picture is after a wash and wax..... not bad for 600 bucks.

Well mine "was" restored to be fairly original when I bought it. It didn't take long for me to fix that problem...

Re: 100% original trucks

This is mine The day I got it out of the garage and washed it up and got it running. Only thing not OE was the grille, Carb Fuel Pump and ignition system usuals. It even had 2 Original tires left. I count the mirrors as original just because they were put on to replace the small mirrors 2 days after the truck was bought new in '78

Now its been painted and some stuff changed to suit my tastes, but it's still stock-ish. to someone who doesn't know these trucks well it would look all original stuff.

Mine was completely stock when I bought it and had a whopping 59,045 miles on the clock. Since then, I've done alot of things that make you sit back and think, "Is that factory...?"

Re: 100% original trucks

Mine is completely stock except for the newer style (81-87) body side moldings, and that is because I could not find good after market stuff to replace all the original owner put screws through to refasten to the truck.

Re: 100% original trucks

NOTHING, in my opinion, takes away originality more than a re-paint on a car/truck.

To me, an "original" truck has not been modified at all, just well maintained and close to exact of what GM delivered from it's assembly lines.

I agree 100%. To be 100% original you also need to have the left front hi-beam head light in nonworking order, the rear main seal leaking and the cylinder #3 exhaust valve lifter installed upside down. That would be 100% UAW GM quality of yester year. That is how my dad’s 1978 K20 showed up at the dealer when it was brand new in September of 1977.

Re: 100% original trucks

This is what I think of when I read this thread . This was original paint , interior, wheels, trim, engine, wheelsand hubcaps , etc. I bought it this way and sold it to an elderly gentleman who I think will keep it this way . My black truck is original paint, interior, trim , etc also but I do not consider it originalk anymore since the radio, suspension , wheels and tires , and exhaust have been changed .

Re: 100% original trucks

Originality vs. practicality.

My 1986 came from the factory with no sway bar, 6" wide wheels, dog dish hubcaps and 195mm wide tires. I bought it last year with 205mm wide tires and it was the worst handling mainly cornering vehicle I have ever owned.

So I found a set of 7" GM wheels with centers and beauty rings on CL for $50. They were a factory option on 1986 pickups RPO PA6 styled wheels and RPO PO6 trim rings. I installed a used sway bar and a set of 225mm x 70 series tires and now this truck drives and handles like a "modern" pickup.

As for front guard that was donated from a 1986 military pickup that was made custom for a 1973-1987. For you see I live in the woods and don't have comp insurance on that truck. One afternoon I counted 26 white tail deer crossing my driveway.
