1980 Silverado- Door Panel Speaker option?

Hey guys, a few years ago, we bought a loaded 1980 Silverado swb 4x4 that had a nasty roll over. Anyway, we still had a few parts left over from it, and these door panels from it had these speaker pods in them that I have never seen before. The door panels on the back side look like they were done from factory, and so I was wondering if it was some sort of option. Thanks Trevor

Re: 1980 Silverado- Door Panel Speaker option?

I was actualy debating doing that to my truck. Wow, those do look clean and stock. What headunit was in it? just stock?

Probably not stock, but done clean enough to make it look that way.

4 x 6" is what I believe these measure out to be. Trevor

Those are factory, and I am pretty sure they are unique to 1980 only.

I think it was an option for 79-80 only.

I have a set going in my 73.

It's a one year only option for 1980.

The ONLY door speakers that were ever factory are those posted by the orig poster of this thread. Your speakers are not factory and installed by a PO.

i dont see why he would do it thoe it has factory wiring all the way to the head unit and when i asked if the door speakers worked he said there hooked up but they dont play sound cuz they need to be replaced

You do know it takes all of 10 minutes to run wires from the door to the headunit?

Sorry those are aftermarket... pull them out and you'll see the rough cut edges.

Re: 1980 Silverado- Door Panel Speaker option?

Trust me, they are not factory.

GM never put speakers in the bottom of the doors on these trucks.

If you disagree, simply show us the information to back it up.

It is OK if you have speakers down there, just don't confuse them with saying they are factory.

Re: 1980 Silverado- Door Panel Speaker option?

Doesn't matter what doors are on your truck, the holes and the speakers that sit in them did not come from GM.

You more than likely will be the only person on this entire board who will disagree with this.

Re: 1980 Silverado- Door Panel Speaker option?

The original owner probably had them installed at the dealer if they were Delco items . Still not original from the assembly line , but the Or Owner may have had it done on day one .

Anybody can buy AC Delco speakers from the GM parts counter and put them in the doors. Heck, GM even sold a 4x10 speaker kit for the rear cab corners that came with brackets, wiring, and all.

The only factory installed door speakers are those picture in post #1...period.
