Look in the air inlet tube and make sure it isn't blocked somehow.

Re: Idling Issues

Make sure that it is in fact the air filter by removing it. If it still stalls then you know it's either a fuel issue or maybe a timing/ignition issue.

If it runs good without it, then you'll probably need to make a change. Not sure where you would go from there. On mine I'm using the small aftermarket one that I bought from Auto Zone. Wish I had my original...

it seems to me like the problem is always there but the filter amplifys it. thanks for the help

having a taller filter is basicly like the old flip the lid trick to increase airflow, now that your truck is getting less air than it was tuned for its running too rich and flooding out. all it needs is a quick carb tune up

Make sure the choke is opening fully. I found this problem with mine today. It was sputtering whenever it was accelerated under load. Choke was about 3/4 closed. Opened it up and it's running great.

That might be just the problem, (forgive me for the very non technical terms here because i know nothing about carbs),but it has a little round dial on the front for the choke that you turn to the left for lean, and the right for rich. So should i just crank that thing all the way to lean??

Re: Idling Issues

What you can do is warm up the engine first, then pull off the air cleaner so you can see the position of the choke, then rotate the choke assembly to full open. As it cools, it should close back up. You might check a haynes manual, etc for "how to" info.
