Question Transmission cross member

I have removed the torsion suspension front end and installed a new 1980 front and cross member.

The torsion bar crossmember is still on the truck.
Can I remove that member from the truck?

I need to get a crossmember for the truck and I am using a 350 transmission. The books only seem to show cross members for 63 up. Is there a standard member or do I have to gerry rig some new crossmember.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
