finally started
Well I guess you could say i am new to this board, but I have mainly just been lurking and learning
 . I recently picked up a damn nice to me long bed 70 chevy. Its a factory air, power steering and brake truck.What amazed me was everything worked on this truck, and was original except for the wheels and the metal plate welded into the floor.I wanted a short bed, but damn they are expensive around here for a nice one . I decided to shorten this one....started bed yesturday at 10 in the morning or so and got this far....plans call for bagged on these wheels and new shoes, unless I find some decent 18s or so, cleanedup body, and little else... And the mess ...Today I plan on finish welding the inside of the front part on the bed, adn might try and get the new track bar and bags started in the back. I plan to do the fram in two weeks when I get back from a trip home to Denver, should be fun. Jeff |

Your work looks good so far. When I did mine the neighbors kept sneeking peeks to see what I was doing. One of them thought I was only changing out the engine and was surprised when he saw my new short bed.
I went the other route, swapped frames. Good luck and keep us posted.

Yeah neighbor only see me and my cousin on the weekend...we work out of town. The ones that know us know we like the old ride...we got two 70 chevys and two 64 chevy truc, so we are always workin
... And as far as the easy part....I just took a few worrds of encouragement for a certin how to man from this website and rolled with it, was a little bit trying at times ut good overall...cant wait for the frame part .Jeff |

Welcome from Saskatchewan Canada. Great start to your truck there. I agree, ther is nothing wrong with shortening up a long box, jsut means you get what U want in the end. Just a hint thou, i think there is a big Gap btn you cab and box. i might look into that, as there may be something wrong. i will stay posted to see if it gets resoled. hehe.

Yeah kinda got on a roll on saturday....but sunday kinda sucked....went to finish the inside and had grinder issues
....then when i got the grinder running I ran out of flap wheels...oh well, just primmed it so it wouldnt rust and put it back outside.In two weeks I plan on the frame shortening, as well as I picked up a super trackbar from early classics and lucked out on some slam specility bags at a swap meet a few weeks ago....should help with the rear high status. JEff Ps....here are the other projects.... |

Well I finally got back to working on the truck today.... Got most of the frame shortening done, still need to fish plate the frame and weld in the box plates I got from early classics. All in all it went well, had a few issues with the cuts I made and a few bouts with misc. materials in my right eye...
....And I blame rokcrwln entirely for his great write up ( would not have been able to do it as easily without it ..Any way... Here are a few pics I got from today, hope to have a few more tomorow, we will see how I feel(been sick lately  ) |

Well I did the drive shaft as I need the truck to remain mobile so I can get all the nicer trucks back into my cousins garage... had good luck doing this before. The only real issue is the carrier is SHOT!....oh well, I plan on a one piece anyway. All I really have left to do now is new exhaust, driveline, and replace the wood in the bed so it can match the body lines better. I also am in the works for getting the bags on as well as teh junkyard 6 lug disk swap...
Jeff Ps....thanks to all the great tech on this site, would have been alot tougher without it .....

Well I have been itching to get ther rear down and finally had a little bit of time saturday to get a little bit of work done. I think it is turning out well, aside for welder and helmet malfunctions that haulted progress. Hope fully I can get to the front next weekend, thinking about just building the rest of the rails on out, but atleast plate it in nicer adn build a new track bar mount to make it look cleaner.....for now here are a few of the crappy pics I have ....
