ABS/Brake light
On our trip to Colorado this past week had an issue with my 2000 1500 suburban.
Left Dallas and got to Amarillo with no issues. Got into Raton pass the next day and stopped by Micky D's for some lunch. Pulled back out on the road and my ABS/Brake light dash warning lights came on. Pulled into the visitors center to find a local dealer. Walked in and came back out to discover the warning lights no longer on. Went into Colorado and up and down the mountains for 3 days with no issues. Came back on Friday and right past Whicata Falls the lights came back on. Has anyone ever experienced this before? |

Re: ABS/Brake light
Have you done the regular stuff, brake fluid level, checked the brakes, etc, etc?

Re: ABS/Brake light
Yes. everything looked fine to me and there are no noises (grinding, chirping)
Thought someone might have had the same problem in the past. |

Re: ABS/Brake light
This problem is pretty common. It was one of the issues my 2003 Suburban had and my sister's 2000 model also had this problem. Turning the truck off will reset the problem but it will return in short order.
The possible fix is almost too simple to believe but hear me out. It has worked on several other suburbans/tahoes/silverados. Of course if this does not fix it you will want to take the truck to a mechanic to check the codes as it may be something more serious. Try this though first and it may save you some $$. Feel free to send some to me if it does work for you though. The "possible" Fix: Remove the engine cover. Reach back on the right (passenger) side of the engine and locate a wire bolted to the top rear of the engine. This is a ground wire and the connection becomes compromised over time by rust/grease/dirt/etc. See if you can move the ground lug but be carefull not to break the wire. If it can be moved just turning it slightly to reset the ground may be all you need to do. Check your dash lights now. If this did not solve the problem you might want to unbolt that ground wire, clean the surfaces and reinstall. If this does not fix the problem you should consult a mechanic. Seems too simple but this ground wire is in a critical system and causes several problems if it is not secure. Good luck. Hope this helps |

Re: ABS/Brake light
There are electrical sensors in each of your front hubs(and rear if all disc brakes). Check your front hubs and make sure they are connected and not loose.
If all looks good i would take it in and have someone look at them. Last thing you need is one to sieze or give while your driving. Better safe then sorry. The reason i am bringing it up is i just had the same issue not even a week ago and found my right front hub bad. -Hart
