Emergency brake cable

Im ready to swap out my rearend for a posi, But having lots of trouble trying to disconnect the cables from the rear backing plates. Ive trashed 5 hose clamps trying to compress that prong but no sucess. Any bright ideas? This is the only thing holding me up. I want to reuse this cable. Chevy really dropped the ball on this design. thanks

Re: Emergency brake cable

This is a 75 half ton. I need to remove from rear brake backing plate. Everything else is loose. I ordered a tool 20 bucks. If this doesnt do it im out 20 plus 5 for hose clamps. Next plan, break out the die grinder and enlarge the holes in the backing plates since this housing will be trashed. Like i said whoever thought of this design should be shot. Ive wasted too much time and money on this.
