67/68 grill
Howdy Everyone,
I have been looking at all the awesome pictures of the 67/68 trucks on the site. I have noticed that some of the grills are white and some are body color. My '68 has a white grill, were some of the grills body color from the factory or were they all white? As I prep my truck for paint, this has become a big debate between my wife and I. She likes the white, I like it too on most trucks, kind of depends on the body color for me.... Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: 67/68 grill
I know that on my '67 grille I have stashed, it was painted the body color with white grille surrounds (not sure what they are called). I can get you a pic tonight.

Re: 67/68 grill
Personally I think it looks better painted white.
Mine came original white, bright surrounding trim, and black inserts.

I like the white. Actually, I like any other color EXCEPT the body color.

Vectorit... man it is hard to argue with a truck that sharp. You may have sold me on the white grill.
Thanks guys for your opinions.

Re: 67/68 grill
The white is cool IMO also. I'm gonna paint mine a dark gray/silver. Body color is gonna be flat black. I'm thinking about doing the roof the same color as the grill area.

Re: 67/68 grill
I think it is fine as long as you are using the trim around it. Alot of people shave off the trim and carry the color over to the grille.

Re: 67/68 grill
All 67's were painted body color with either white bezels and trim or the bright(polished aluminum) bezels and trim. In 1968, the gov'ment got involved to make vehicles "safer". Side marker lights, seatbelts, and other things were made standard equipment. Front ends either required more chrome or white painted grill to make them easier to see my oncoming motorists.
When I bought my 68, it had been repainted black with the grill, headlight bezels and bumpers painted silver. The grill trim was painted black to match the truck. When I repainted it, i decided to make it body color with the bright trim. Here's pics of it both ways.

Re: 67/68 grill
LOL Kevncar, I was thinking the same thing. When Vectorit posted his truck I thought I had made up my mind. Now that 68Stepbed has posted his I am back to square one.... This is how guys wind up with four or five dang trucks.
Thanks again everyone for your input!

Re: 67/68 grill
Well, I certainly didn't mean to make things harder for you guys. I was actually gonna go with the same theme I had with the silver grill and the grill trim painted to match the body, but I decided at the last minute to go body color because I didn't have any silver anywhere else. The only silver on the whole truck would've been in the grill and I thought it might look odd. At least with the black, I had my tailgate lettering, some odd and end stuff in the interior and engine compartment silver so it tied in nicely.
I would still like to see one done that way though. If you couls incorporate enough silver or white elsewhere, it would look really cool. Say, for example, a metallic blue body with the grill, roof, and tailgate letters painted silver or whits and the grill trim painted the same metallic blue. If you had a fleetside with the CST trim and you two toned it that way would look cool as well. I hope this doesn't make the decision even harder now.

Re: 67/68 grill
I think I'm probably gonna wind up with something like this.... white grill and top and white below the trim. The body color will be an orange of some sort.

Mine is body color, but the body is an off white. I think they can look great either way, it just depends on the color of the truck. I really like vectorit's and 68Stepbed's trucks

I've wondered about white trucks with color up front. My interior is blue metallic. Any one have pics of something like this?

Re: 67/68 grill
Just had to chime in on the comment by garryk,
Quote: This is how guys wind up with four or five dang trucks. so true, all these trucks look awesome. Get half way into a project and start thinking about "When I do the next one" I am still in debate over the front sheetmetal on my '70... Keep the original front or go with the '67 '68 style, I already have a new core support for '67 '68, maybe ill use it on the next one... Last edited by Kayotic; 03-25-2009 at 02:23 PM. |

Re: 67/68 grill
Kayotic... it's funny, I can't even really decide what kind of truck I want the most. I have the '68 C20, the '69 Blazer and a '72 Suburban. I guess I love them all equally unless one of them is giving me grief.
People are doing so many cool things to their trucks, it's amazing. I have been looking at some of the build threads, holy crap, you guys have got some serious talent! Thanks again for all the pictures and input, I'm more confused now than when I started but it's a good confused.

Re: 67/68 grill
theCheyenneShop, your truck is exactly the same color as my '68. That white grill is beautiful.
Mine is a C20, I'm gonna have to ditch the 8 lug at some point. I was pretty proud to pick this truck up. It's got a 327, buddy buckets, factory air, power steering, power (drum) brakes. And it's in decent shape.

Re: 67/68 grill
I'm not going to have the trim on the fenders and bottom of hood, so my grill is going to be body color.
With trim, I think either way looks good. Maybe on my next project (suburban) I'll go with a white grill. |

Re: 67/68 grill
I like the white grille if running hood/brow trim. ...and the two tone with white top and bottom is my fave (front can be either way).

Re: 67/68 grill
Used to have a '68 C-20 that was all white. Had factory red interior, and I kept thinking about how cool that grill would look painted red for contrast. Having every inch of the truck white was pretty boring. Never got around to it, I sold it and started looking for a half ton. Guy I sold it to says I get first crack at it if he ever sells it. Maybe when I'm done with the half ton.
