Steering Column Replacement
Sorry, posted originally under wrong forum.
My Uncle has a 1972 Chevy C10 and he wants to buy a replacement chrome steering column from LMC Truck Parts with tilt wheel. Questions: 1) has anyone purchased a replacement column from LMC and how was it? http://www.lmctruck.com/ICATALOG/CB/full.aspx?page=91 2) If not from LMC, where is the best? 3) how difficult is the switch out. Is it fairly straight forward? Your thoughts? Lar |

Re: Steering Column Replacement
Larry,
First of all....WELCOME to the board Take a looky over in the Parts for Sale board.....'KevsClassic' and 'Retro68' both rebuild tilt columns.....send them a PM or look for their ads over there to see what they offer! check this thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=264748 It's a pretty easy switch too.... FYI....if you become a subscribing member ($25) you can post a WTB (want to buy) ad over there....good luck

Re: Steering Column Replacement
Larry, There is a few options out there. Flaiming River & Ididit both make columns for our trucks.
I chose to go with polished stainless and thus the Flaiming river column was over $100 cheaper then Ididit. 900 something through Ididit 730 (I think) through FR. This is for a direct fit 35" column with the correct splines at the end. Although ALL of there column come with the 4.5" flat electrical plug and you will need to get their adapter to goto the 2.5" half moon as well. (even though its direct fit?) I ran into that and had to go back and order it too. One thing you will have to know before hand is how far your Neutral saftey switch is from the end of your column. The two options are 10" and 17". I had the wrong one first and had to send it back. I thought I could just pull the wire loose and relocated it but it actually hits part of the dash support if you have the wrong one. You might be able to find better deals out there but for Polished Stainless that was the best I could find at the time. Keep in mind Chrome is usually cheaper too. But, i felt with part of the column on the outside of the firewall and under the dash it would be hard to care for and keep the chrome waxed so moisture wouldn't damage the chrome.
