rag joint

I pulled the rag joint from my burb yesterday & seen that it only had splines about 1/3 on it like the pic from this thread. Is this correct? I thought mine was stripped until I did a search & seen this pic.

Re: rag joint

That's how mine is, and it was a pain to find it. I eventually found a replacement in a Impala restoration shop for around 50 bones.

Re: rag joint

Thanks, I guess it's ok then, I just need to either replace the "rag" part or decide to replace the whole thing.

Re: rag joint

Replace the whole thing! Those rebuild kits suck, and it's just not a good idea to rebuild em IMO.

Re: rag joint

I think CPP sells the entire rag joint now. They had a few of them on ebay a while back....I believe $39 plus shipping.

Re: rag joint

Thanks everybody, I will order a new one. Any P/N from Advance Auto?? I looked at Checker Auto & AutoZone & NAPA the other day & they didn't have a P/N listed for this...

Re: rag joint

I changed my gear box because it was leaking not to long ago and went through the rag joint madness. My parts guy finally found the right one after ordering 3. It is a royal PITA. Once you get the right one it is not that bad. There are 2 different sized shafts and 3 different spline configurations from what I have found. Get with a good parts guy and he will be able to get you the right one.
