83 shortbed 4x4 with a Diesel
I recently acquired an 83 1/2 Shortbed 4x4 with a diesel. My friend gave it to me around x-mas time, but I've been storing it for him for a while now. Anyways I was wondering if that is a rare truck.
My plans for it is to rebuild the rear end (bad pinion bearing) and then drive it until the axles fall off. Thanks!

Pics of it? That may help some of the guys to help you know exactly what you have there. Sounds like a cool rig though.

1983 K10 Diesel, makes up 14% of K10's that year.
I have an 84 K10 SWB 6.2L, love it! 1984 K10 Diesel, makes up 7% of 1984 K10's.

Re: 83 shortbed 4x4 with a Diesel
Thanks!!! I'll try to get some pics of it soon. The few times I've driven it, I really liked it. I'm still working all the bugs out. My friend got it with a bad engine so I swapped that out (had a good 6.2L sitting in a parts suburban) for him and then a few days later the tranny went out. So my friend found a nicely rebuilt 700R4 and I installed that. My friend and I were talking about it around x-mas time and he said I could have it if I wanted it, so I immediately said yes to that. I still have some adjustments to make to the tranny because the torque converter isn't locking up and I need to fine tune the tv cable. Other than that it needs the rear end rebuilt because of the pinion bearing and then I need to fix the heater fan. There may be a few other fixes it needs but they probably won't show up until I start driving it...it's been parked for a long time.
