Smile installing hei dist/finding tdc

Hi, Have 73 gmc 350 w/hei dist. When i changed the harmonic balancer from orig
to liquid the timing mark changed and could not time a 8 deg or time at all. AT present the motor won't start. Have remote starter setup. Does the ign key have to be on or off. How to get to TDC. Does the #1 plug have to taken out.
How do i get per chevy truck manual get to 530 on face clock. Please help

A quick way to find TDC, with your intake on I assume, is to pull your #1 plug, stick your finger in there, and bump the engine over either with another person or with a remote starter until your finger "pops". At that point, your piston should be at TDC, you can feel for it with a small screwdriver to check. Then check your rotor and see which direction it's pointing, mark it, that should be your #1.
