Starting the 71

I hope this ain't one of the stuiped questions but this is the first build i've done. The truck should be here on sunday and wondering what steps i should take to get this rolling?

Are you talking about firing the engine up for the first time or just driving it for the first time?

If it's the engine, it would depend on how long it set and/or what was done to it. If it was an overhaul and it set for a while, I'd be reluctant to just start it. I would probably squirt some oil in each cylinder first. The best thing is to pressurize the oil pump if you can do it.

If it's just driving it after it set for a while, the first thing I'd want to make sure is that the brakes were working and in good condition.

My neighbor had a breakline and then a brakeline hose bust in his 68 Dodge just recently. He avoided a disaster the first time and just broke his steering shaft. The second time, he busted a pole. He's been lucky. I told him to quit taking chances and get all new hoses and lines...
