Post Quickie - going price of a TH400?

Just asking since part of the fundage for my 700R4 swap involves selling the TH400 in it now...about 20,000 miles on a rebuild 3 years ago, still shifts like the first day...anyway, I've got a very interested buyer (who's gonna freshen it up anyway, since he's putting this behind a hot big block in his '73 Chevy; might as well clean it up if it's out of a vehicle, right?). Of course...the main issue...what's a good, fair price for a TH400 like this? I'm not out to make any money or screw the guy over, he's a good friend, but at the same time, I don't want to just give the thing away.

I think I oughta give him a test ride in it too, heh...so he can decide if he wants to mod the shift kit in it...if I were keeping it, I'd probably soften the 1-2 shift up some more...along with setting WOT shifts about 500-800RPM higher...

In Western Michigan TH-400 that work good will sell from $75 to $150 with rebuildable
transmissions priced $25 to $40. They are a great transmission but they do use some horsepower so a lot of folks prefer the TH-350 transmission.

I am not sure what the market is in your area
but I see these prices on transmissions come up quite often in the local parts ads. The last one that I bought, (6 mos. ago) was rebuilt with a shift kit, (the rebuild was 1 year old)and it works very well. I paid $75
for it. I thought $75 was a great deal for this particular transmission because it was really clean.

Jim
