700R4 in 84 Trucks

I think I remember reading somewhere that the 700R4 transmission was introduced by GM in 1982. I was wondering if the TH 350 was still being used along with the 700R4 in 1984 chevy trucks? Was the 700R4 an option in 84 or did it come stock with certain models?

Re: 700R4 in 84 Trucks

305 trucks tend to be 700R4. L6 trucks almost all TH350's. 350 could be either ot TH400 depending on load capability. Diesels seem to be 700R4 or 400's and 454's seem to be th400.

I have two 84's... One was factory 305/350 combo while the other one (a Canadian Big 10) was a 305/700R4 combo.

Re: 700R4 in 84 Trucks

My 84 came with a 305 and 350C tranny. So did my son's 86 truck. Both trucks have been changed out for upgraded engines (Mine has a 383 stroker motoer and my son hads a 350 Crate motor)and 700R4 trannys. We are not sorry we did it either.

Re: 700R4 in 84 Trucks

my '84 short box has the factory 305/TH350c in it and my old '84 4x4 originally had a 305/700r4 stock in it. which the 305 was replaced with a built 355, and the tranny was rebuilt with a shift kit added...

Re: 700R4 in 84 Trucks

My current 84 has the 305/TH350 combo, and my old 84 had the 305/700R4 combo. Both trucks were regular 1/2 ton 2WD trucks with very similar options, heck even the same color combo!
