I was curious if

anyone on this forum ( 88-98 ) has put together a bigger front brake setup for the front that was of their own fabrication/idea?

ok...maybe a better way to put it is if theres a swap that uses a bigger rotor that can be made to work on our trucks.

So what your wondering is, can you use something like a Camaro or Corvette rotor? Not that I am aware of. Anyone have any input.

yeah, I don't know that the rotor would be as much of a problem as modifying the caliper mounting not knowing if anyone has ever tried and succeeded.

There was a company in AZ that was called Praise Brake Dyno and they sold Kevlar-based brake components for drum systems. I wonder if they ever got into discs, if they weren't already?

Update: I went on line to www.praisedynobrake.com and found that they are in TX and only offer drum brake stuff. If anyone is into drums and doesn't want to install discs, they are worth a look. But, they don't have anything for discs that just pops up. I did see in their FAQ's that discs and rotors are cited. They apparently have cryogenically treated components and that is their claim to fame.....as well as much improved stopping for drum brake vehicles. It's worth a look, if just for the knowing.

What about Baer brakes?

Yeah, I googled them and found the same and also some not so good feedback. I know I can get a quality setup on all four corners from Baer and they are like 20 miles from where I live. I was just wanting to explore the possibility of building my own and saving a little money...it would be over 3 grand to go with baer.

I just looked, too, and what I saw for the most part is for Ford. Gotta be some others.

You want larger rotors, right? Do you have some big rollers and you want to fill up the view?

well presently the truck has a fabtech lift on it. I put this on for my daughter when she was driving the truck. The motor went and it sat for a long time before I recently replaced the motor. I've decided since it's just a 1/2 ton 2WD that I would take the lift off and put some big toyo's on with 22" wheels. I'm definately looking at bigger brakes for better stopping power. I'm going to pull a tire off and see what the stock caliper mounts look like.
