Off to the Body Shop

Well, I dropped the '87 off at the body shop today.

Nothing wild... just minor adjustments on the hood and bed alignment, wet sanding, taping and sealing. No color. Gonna keep the Rat Rod black theme going with the Chrome and Billet shining.

I snapped this with my iphone. Should be ready in a few days!

Nice looking truck. The flat black looks pretty good on it.

Good luck Kenny. When did you get the TT's? I've seen your truck numerous times, but first I've seen it with the TTs (or are those Coys?) Either way, really like the look!

Doh!

I thought of that... 846miles.

BM - had the TT's since late last fall. 20s all around. New rubber on the way for the fronts.

Re: Off to the Body Shop

Truck looks great. I am redoing my 87 at the moment as well. Half the truck is in primer and I was thinking it actually looks pretty good that way. It's original paint color is gloss black. Is that primer on your truck or an actual flat black paint? Mine is a silverado too but I am not re-using the side moldings or badges on the fender. I will reuse the wheel arch chrome like on your truck and the back cab band like also on your truck.

Seems like flat black would hide lots of stuff too. I am no body man, learning as I go but I bet there will be some imperfections shown if I repaint it factory gloss.

I like the sound of what your describing... how bout some pics of it though? No, it's not paint, it's just unsealed primer in the above pics.

I stopped by the body shop this afternoon to check on the progress and snapped a couple of pics with the iphone. They have it stripped down and ready to tape off.

They are going to sand it a bit and shoot it with a dark sealer to give it that flat black look.

Re: Off to the Body Shop

You really Should paint it!! that rough surface creates friction and will slow you down.Friction creates heat and might warp the hood and fenders..........or you could just cover it with stickersAfter all vinyl is slick

Re: Off to the Body Shop

Not going to hijack the thread, but here is a pic of the truck in gloss black. I added the fender yesterday, plus a primer bed will be going on, I dunno, I like the primer look for sure. Either way, I like how you kept the wheel arch moldings and did away with the side moldings. I think it gives it a cleaner look.

Looks bad in the pic, but I can visualize how it would look in all flat black sort of like the fender

Re: Off to the Body Shop

I like the glossy finish, but for mine, the stance DEMANDED a BBC so I put one in this past year.. hence the rat rod black theme.

Nice truck btw...

Re: Off to the Body Shop

Lowrider, you should spray some dupont hot hues hot rod black on there. This stuff won't fade and its easy to clean. I'm spraying my whole truck with it as soon as i finish all my shaving and bodywork.

Re: Off to the Body Shop

Truck looks good. I would recommend an actual flat black like mentioned. It will hold up better out in the elements then the primer. This is often discussed over in the body & paint forum. Check it out there to see the feedback others have gotten.

Re: Off to the Body Shop

I purchased the Eastwood Rat Rod Black kit.

I talked to my body man. He suggested just to use the sealer in case I decide to put color on it in the near future. That way, all I'd have to do is a little roughin' it up, tape it off and paint.

If this doesn't look good enough or last very long, I'll take that kit to him and have him re shoot it.

Thanks,

It's static. 2 1/2" Spindles and 1 coil removed up front and a flip kit in the rear.

Re: Off to the Body Shop

Went to the body shop today. Cleaned up the frame and rear diff and axle tubes a bit to get it ready to paint too.

Frame and rear end will be glossy black and shocks will remain white for a little touch of detail.
