Longhorn Bed
If I take a regular long bed and remove the front, then take the first section of a longhorn bed remove it can it be attached to the regular longbed? I have a longbed in great shape, but my longhorn bed isn't that good. Thinking a swap like this would get me a great bed overall.

You could probably do that, but will be in for quite a bit of welding & fitting. You may want to do a little measure, the longhorn bed is 6" longer than a long bed, but from the front edge to the seam, i beleive is 7". also, Im not sure if the placement of the box supports is the same. My cab came from a long horn truck. It had no rust and now I'm wondering what the bed looked like. I know it had a lot of stuff pilled in it.

If you need some quick crossmember measurements. my new (to me) Longhorn bed is in the yard upside down, with the crossmembers exposed for easy measuring. Let me know.

It would be quite a bit of work, but since it is butt welded together, and the stake pockets are not modified for the longhorn bed, it could be done fairly easily.
I just wonder if it would be worth the time/effort. I know of a decent longhorn bed for sale in Tx....100 bucks. Plus there are a few members selling them, I think one in PA and one in Nevada. Just a thoguht. |
