Talking My 64.

I just got this for an early graduation gift from my dad. which was handed down to him from his dad. That he never had a chance to restore. Since its mine now we are going to work on it together.

Its a short wheelbase fleetside with the small back window.

It has a 305 V8 from a 85 Chevy Blazer.

Like i said This truck needs restoring. The windshield is cracked. The bed wood is gone but the bed is in decent shape. The pass side rocker, floorboard, fender, and door has rust. cab corners are in good shape. The hood also has some rust.

Suggestions?

That's a nice SWB. Welcome to the board. What part of GA are you in? I'm in North GA. Before I give suggestions I need to know your plans.

I live in Temple about 30 minutes west of Atlanta. I'm not sure what I want to do to it yet. I like the slammed and the rat rod look. I’m really undecided.

Nice!

Looks good and welcome to the board! It's in pretty typical shape for one of these trucks especially in the hood. You might also want to look into another hood because it looks like a piece of work. Nice place to start though. Now crack open an LMC catalog and order yourself some panels.

I too received mine from my Grandpa but without it passing by my dad. Luckily though, both are still around to see it happen and help me when I need it. I Will hopefully have mine done by two weeks before my graduation which is in less than two months.

Old custom classic trucks have soul. Their dashboards aren't plastic, and they've survived both the best and worst of what the 20th century had to offer. For the owners of these trucks, it's often the same story. Through both good and bad times they persevered, until one day they could turn the key and roll up in a customized truck everyone with good taste would admire.Custom Classic Trucks

You don't want to do something and in 2 months redo it to do something else. Unless you just have money to burn. You will get alot of help here, it's a great place and alot of good people. BTW does it run and drive?

Re: My 64.

Welcome to the board! My first project in High School was a '73 Chevy, and was probably in the exact same condition as yours. I learned a lot from having that truck, as I am sure you will from having yours! Welcome to the gear head life!

Re: My 64.

Welcome to the forums from Kansas City, KS. You have a nice platform to start with and it should be a lot of fun doing this project with your father.

I suggest sitting down with your father and developing a plan of attack. By doing so, you will have some direction and a method to track your progress and budget. Pirior to starting a project, big or small, I make a detailed list of my goals and prepare a conservative estimate of the costs of each item.

In the end, this game plan will keep you on course and give you a sense of accomplishment along the way. Good luck to you and your father on this project and remember to post early and often, especially photos.

Nice. Nothing like your very first build, trying to break those frozen bolts, all the busted knuckles and of course the feeling of getting chemicals in the cuts.

That’s cool. Yeah I def. don't have the money to throw away. Wish I did! It dose run, but still needs to be tweaked with a little. As it stands now I can't drive it far because I need new breaks. I'm thinking of doing the disk swap.
