62 c20 question
I'm working on a 62 c20 and need some advice. First, What years can cross for steering box, turn signal switch (all the guts), speedo', window regulators and the transmission cross member that will work for a th350. I know most parts for 63-66 will fit those years, but is there any backward compatibility... I hope I asked that question correctly. Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: 62 c20 question
The easy way to check is to go to a vendor catalog and look up the part. At the best you won't be able to go before 1960.
For the crossmember you will probably have to modify one. The TH350 wasn't made until 1969.

Re: 62 c20 question
I kinda figured as much. I didn't know if there was an aftermarket cross member or not. It should be an easy mod, just dont know how stable it will be.

window regs-60-63
speedo 60-63 I ran into a hassle with my column when I tried to put a 60 back together with 63 parts, the turn signal cup and all the hard ware were different, even the column housing was different, not sure what the year break for the columns is, but 1960, and 1963 do not interchange with each other. |

Re: 62 c20 question
That's good info. I was thinking that 60-63 would work, so im glad you said something. we have a local scrap yard that has a lot of our stuff out there. These are the things I will need to look for while im there and the years DO make a big difference.

Re: 62 c20 question
An auto crossmember from 63 to 87 should fit/work. If you want to keep your emergency brake though, you would need one from a 63-66 that has the attachment on the back of it.

Re: 62 c20 question
OK great, I guess one could always cut off the attachment and weld it on to the other, or would this cause a problem?

Re: 62 c20 question rear transmission crossmember
Hey all. I own the truck chucks1967 is asking about. I emailed some folks that sell the crossmember for 63-72. They all said that it would not fit on a 62. Something about torsion bars are different? The mounting holes for a TH350 should be the same distance from the front as the original powerglide. Probably have to manufacture one up. I will post here pics of what it looks like now and will try to take frame comparison pictures when I get around to it. Hopefully I can post some dimensions on both types of frames for comparison and help someone out in the future.

Re: 62 c20 question
The '60-'62's are quite a bit different frame wise than the '63-'66's. The main difference being thr torsion bar front sospension, and the big "X" member in the middle of the frame. You may be able to use a '63-'65 or a '66-'87 auto trans crossmember, but you would have to shorten it by a lot for it to fit in a '60-'62.
